Added: Random Modstring detection [WiZaRd]

oh, what see I, how how wow... so silly feature ?
IS this allowed ? you bound free eMule
sorry, but i run many tests builds with random modstrings (not recognizable with this). where is the problem to use random strings, bad ?
how can you say,... this.. blablabla, is not allowed ???? ha, only stulle string is allowed.. LOL
PLEASE remove immediately from a official client. or I make it possible in next release to edit string detection how user like.

EDIT::

and be sure, no leecher can be detected with any string. only a detection of behavior is possible.

pissing the wrong leg. first of all, i did not code it. secondly, i am not the only one to use it. thirdly, provide tests it punishes mods that are considered good and not made up for the purpose of making a stupid point. fourthly, it's of no concern if it fails to recognize one of your crap leechers. lastly, there is a fine difference between the two of us. when i tell you, you should remove something i have valid arguments and the background of never having intentionally violated any rules. in fact, the only times i violated the rules were some four years back when i did not rip out all the EastShare features from StulleMule. you, on the contrary, have provided sufficient proof that you can be very ignorant to sound reasoning and rules. so don't piss at my leg!

PS: if you want to make this a CA vs. traditional (aka DLP) leecher protection, i kindly ask you to go here because we are done with this shit for like three years now.

PPS: the only official client can be downloaded here: http://www.emule-pro...l=1&rm=download and also, great job being ignorant to that code for how long? 9 months-ish?!

edit: and just for your information, this code rather reliably finds some fincan, and (iirc) hebrew leechers.

Hello Stulle, Thank you very much for your X-mas gift.

here I found some leechers that StulleMule may misses. ./srchybrid/BaseClient.cpp:

//(_tcsstr(m_strModVersion, _T("easyMule 10")) && _tcsstr(m_strClientSoftware,_T("0.48a"))) || //easymule 10#### are not based on .48a // we do it differently

This is not easyMule but a fake one, VeryCD company never released an easyMule version 10 based on 0.48a. This one is Xunlei Offline Download Server, whose users pay 10 RMB per month to get a server-side service to download everything from http and p2p. Xunlei's stuff explicitly claimed (google translate) that Xunlei Offline Download Server never upload one bit to other clients when it is connecting to p2p networks.

Edit: Wait a minute. Does it mean that, it is in the blacklist but Stullemule does it differently in some other way? OK, if so, forget about things above.

//_tcsstr(modversion,_T("miniMule")) || //it must be a leecher // Stulle: i can't find nothing about this!

This is VeryCD's miniMule and it doesn't release new files.

So, it may or may not help, but just consider adding them to the list.

about first thing:

				(StrStrI(m_strModVersion,_T("VeryCD easymule 10")) && m_nClientVersion < MAKE_CLIENT_VERSION(0, 49, 1)) || // they seem to be related to screwing up our upload

about second thing:

interesting, did not know.

BTW random modstring detection is OK, but random modstring punishment is a clear rule violation. It is not forbidden to send random modstrings.

Change the codes name to "detect TLH, etc." and everything is fine... it's not detecting random modstrings but specially crafted ones... have a look at the code to get the idea. :angelnot:

No offense however :

1. I think it'd be better that such discussion will take place on DLP (or related) threads.
2. The code for "random modstr" detection was used in past version of SharkX (with "ban control") - however according to one of my beta testers (no1else - used to release only localized subs stuff, and Israel is "booster" land) nothing was detected.

Not very related however, if it helps in any manner : vast majority of tlh/tln at Israel have "community" hashes (reported lately by no1else). Another popular leecher mod used at Israel "UltraFast" (or whatever) seems to pound requests for the same file it was downloading while on upload list for sort of "reserving" a position in queue and it shows very quickly again on upload list (just after ending a session - blocking getting in queue while on upload list can be used for such behavior).

again, if the code is detecting an awful lot or none at all is of no concern regarding the rules! none of the rules say "whatever you do it has to have be awesome!"

Doesn't the rule imply about what is done after detection and not about the detection method (as long as there are no false positives) ?

cut it out, will you?! the basic rule is be fair. if you don't want to ban certain leechers banned by this code bugger off. i've about had it. someone who has no idea what he is talking about and used to be/is a known leecher coder comes along and gives me bull crap and now some more people who prolly have no clue either tag along and make a fuss!

This wasn't aimed at YOU but at Morph4u ;)
I suggest everybody should calm down... if some1 still has a problem with that code and its usage, feel free to examine and try it and if it turns out to be malicious: make a report, but if it's fine: just shut up.
