Is emule looking into the prospect of auto port hopping for those times a firewall can be something other than your best friend?
I have notices Edonkey still rocks on even with our over zealous IT chaps clamping everything they see moving. Can Emule use auto port hopping and even utilise port 80 http in future without manually installing user pays socks?

First of all, I don't consider eMule to be a port scanner. In fact this might damage the reputation of eMule a lot, as it would then show a behaviour similar to a virus.

If anyone beyond your scope of influence installed a firewall then you probably shouldn't try breaking it.
Your request sounds like you intend to run eMule from your school or work - did you ever think about the legal consequences in case those who installed the firewall find out what you're trying to do? You can bet they will, they just have to look into their logfiles... and when you're port-scanning this firewall you'll just make their bell sound so that they can come and get you.

I understand and respect your philosophy. However, as this does not fit the profile for the personal use I employ these applications the end resalt is “another user” choosing a different program for this application.
Where there is a need to kill a particular package in a network environment, software restriction pollices can be invoked and are usually quite effective.
Perhaps a third party plug in could be offered as a work around for those who (with all due respect) wanted this facility as an option they can invoke at their discretion.

If they can't automatically stop you, you'll probably just be banned. Maybe you can get a proxy you host on your PC which routes data to random ports, if you're determined.

This sort of shady behaviour should not be implemented in eMule in my opinion.

"random ports" is already implemented by some mods (emule espanol, morphmod). It will help to fight traffic shaping isp. But it will fail the fight agiast blocking IT departments since there already exists software that inspects the content of the traffic for the kind of applications. Emule should not engage in this fight. If you want hidden traffic you should look for some kind of anonymous file sharer (freenetproject)
Download the MorphXT emule mod here: eMule Morph mod

Aside from the anonymnity, people are often drawn to freenet for it's astonishing speed. *ahem*
