I started this thread to gather some important information for non eMule support questions. If you think something should be added please do so in a way similar to how I have done it. :+1:

Encryption Passwords On Archive Files

If you have downloaded an archive file (eg .zip, .rar, .ace) with eMule and it asks for at password when you try to extract the files below is what you can do. Your probably wasting your time with those password recovery programs. Depending on the complexity of the password it could take years to find it.

Move the file from your incoming folder and restart the download again. After you get all the sources, right click the file and choose "file details", check the comments tab to see if it there is a comment with the password, and also the name tab to see if someone has it in the filename like "filename[pw=xxxxxxx].zip".

Another possibility is to check the comments of the archive. This is often done by double clicking on the file and is then showed in some way in the program before extraction. You will not always see in these comments something like "password=xxckjhfkjsdhfakf". Sometimes times you will see there exists just a word, simething without meaning, even a website address (www.somesite.com). Try them all! Password is often somewhere there or else your download is for the bin! Further more you can try visiting the site that is advertized in the comments and find the password there.

You can also use a WebServices to see all the comments of the file, maybe you could find the password in the comments.

Searching the forum through Google

Essentially it means that searches are not precise enough for searches containing more than one search word. Searching for more than one word will probably give you way too many results since it seems like the board finds results with one of the search words and not all of them. So try to find one search word of 4 or more characters which suits you search best and refrain from using more than one word.

If you want to search for more than one word you can do this on goggle in all sections of the board that are accessible without a password. This is what to do:

+string1 -string2 site:forum.emule-project.net
"string sentence1" -"string sentence2" site:forum.emule-project.net

Where '+' includes the search word or sentence in the search and '-' excludes the search word or sentence in the search. This is not a perfect solution but can find some things that you can't do with the current search function.

Credit goes to Idiot for this info.

How to make a screenshot and post it here
  • Make a screenshot using the Prt Scr button (Print Screen) or better ALT + Prt Scr (Print Screen) to only snapshot the current application.

  • Open any painting software, like Microsoft's Paint program (mspaint.exe).

  • Press CTRL+V to insert the screenshot from the clipboard to the application.

  • Save the file, using a compressing format, like png, gif or jpg.

  • Upload that image to your own homepage/webspace if you have that. If not you can choose several alternatives like eg the ones below:

  • Post you picture here by using {IMG}http://yourspace.com/image.png{/IMG} or {URL="http://yourspace.com/image.png}Click me to see image{/URL}. You will have to replace { with [ and } with ] to make it show right. Please don't use the {img} tags for images larger than 800-600.

I need a license for movie files!

Some times, you need a license for watching a wmv-file. If you want to watch the movie, you have to pay for a license. Try to download .mpg/.mpeg or .avi instead of .wmv-files.
By the way, wmv-files are a safety risk for your computer, because they can contain trojan horses. It would be better to avoid them.

Reading the German, Spanish and French forums in English through Google

Once a thread has been well developed in one of the forums there is little use of it being started from scratch in a different language. Solutions to problems may be too long to translate or explain and a single link to the appropriate thread could be very useful if the reader could actually read it.

This isn't advice just for people who have decided to read the non-english text. This post is also for people who want to help english speakers by pointing them to specific threads in the German, Spanish or French forums. Using Google for translation could be useful if people are willing to use it.

What to do if you want to translate some topic in english:
1. Copy the http link of the topic(for example "forum.emule-project.net/index. php?showtopic=00000" or the topic's title;
2. Use it for "Searching the forum through Google". There should be a result. If there is more than one result find the correct one. Press the "Translate this page" link if there is one. If everything worked as intended you should be able to read the tread in english.

If there isn't a result from the search just copy some text from the forum(language specific words would be best) and use it to search instead of the link or title. Then translate a random topic and navigate to the one you seek.

In fact this is the best thing in using Google for translation. Once you enter the Google frame which says "This page has been automatically translated from [language]." you just use it for browsing and every single page you go to is... surprisingly... automatically translated.

It doesn't matter if you use the search to translate a spanish thread, and then you go to the german forum. Google still says "This page has been automatically translated from Spanish." but German-to-English translation is in place. The translation works for Chinese (Simplified), French, German, Italian, Korean, Japanese, Spanish, and Portuguese.

Unfortunately, in the forum page the names of the topics aren't translated. That's why this way of help would be really practical if somebody points the seeker to the correct topic.

And a final note: the translations are mostly good, but short phrases and one-two word lines may be translated in a really stupid way.

PS: I hope that this is going to be useful to somebody. If a moderator sees this post as pointless: please, do not hesitate.

I cannot delete a movie. Windows says that it's used by another application
Or explorer crashes when I open the folder, or when I select the movie or move the mouse over it...

This happens when Windows is trying to extract the infos (author, title, duration...) to be displayed in a tool-tip, in the status bar or in the left part of the explorer window, but encounters a problem to do this.

There are several ways to prevent this.

1. To view the movie (if it's not corrupted):
open your favourite player and use the file-open menu, but do not select the file in the list (this could open a tool-tip), just type its name in the box (with auto-completion, the first characters are enough)

2. To delete, rename or move the movie with Eplorer:
- Start menu -> Run
- Type regsvr32 /u shmedia.dll
the DLL responsible of extracting infos from media files is now disabled, you can do whatever you want.
When done, to restore the default behaviour:
- Start menu -> Run
- Type regsvr32 shmedia.dll

3. You can use an alternate explorer.
For example, to delete or open a file located in your eMule incoming folder, you can use the eMule shared files window.

4. Command prompt (my favourite method :) )
First, to make it easy to use, copy the following lines in the notepad, save the file with a .reg extension, close it then double-click it.
Note: This is for Windows XP
Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Folder\shell\dosPrompt]
@="Command prompt"

[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Folder\shell\dosPrompt\command]
@="c:\\windows\\system32\\cmd.exe /K mode con lines=50 cols=100"

Now, open the Explorer, right-click the folder that contains your movie and select the "Command prompt" menu.
Once in the command prompt, you can type commands to delete, rename, copy or move the file:
del filename
ren filename newname
copy filename newpath
move filename newfolder

you can use the /? argument to get help about any command. For example:
del /?

to auto-complete a file or folder name, just type the first characters, then press the tab key (one or several times)

my latest favorite jamendo album (Creative Commons license): CraZyH et Djézinho - Prémis N'1
Could be considered as the male counterpart to zap mama. It's really worth a try, even if you hate hip-hop...
Jamendo tags = beatbox electro ethnique experimental hiphop lounge percussions ragga rap reggae scat soft triphop world

An Alternative to Google Translations

You can translate blocks of text or a web page and any subsequent pages on the site you want to read, into the most commonly used languages used on the net - Spanish-English etc etc at:

http://babelfish.altavista.com/

Its a free service and gives fairly good results, but as _cdx_ said, some of the words used can make you laugh. :P

Just thought you all might like to know. :) I hope this is of some use. :+1:

Unable to open archive/compressed files dued to invalid filenames

Symptom:
Invalid Filename (prompted by either winzip or winrar)

Solution:
Usually the files themsevles are not corrupted but the encoding system used by files can't be properly handled by normal zip programs.

Go ahead and download 7-zip.

7-Zip Official Website (Please Click Me)

Note: After opening a archive/compressed file(s) with 7-zip, extract the files to another location and rename them as you wish.
