While webcaching may still be useful for clients whose ISPs don't use PeerCache there is not much point in going on with development unless it has a chance to be added to the official client.
Since the official eMule now supports PeerCache I don't know if the devs will be interested in adding HTTP proxy support as well (devs- if you're reading this please respond).
@geearf/Nils:
Thanks for your support.

But i know WebCache can work with existing infrastructure (Web Proxys). PeerCache has to be implemented separately by the Provider.
The best thing would be to have both implementations in emule: PeerCache for easy Configuration (if your Provider has peer cache implemented) and WebCache if your Provider hasn't implemented PeerCache.

yep
emule and edonkey/overnet can use the webcache feature, so 3 million users more can use it, so its possible that the isp's use the software in the future. now we must make "terror", phone your isp's and ask for the feature, or write emails (not to the managers, they do nothing)

you have to include a URL to a HTTP server which also hosts the file for PeerCache to work.. it just adds the HTTP server as an extra source..
and as far as i understood it your isp doesn't have to set anything up to use PeerCache..

Except buying PeerCache software and installing it on server(s). Or did you mean WebCache?
@yonatan, Superlexx
I've had no time to check both your and official code - cannot be some parts of their code reused for your mod? Although you seem bit frustrated about this PeerCache thing, I think you should continue developing WebCache mod, really:)

The idea is to stay as close to the PeerCache protocol as possible, don't write too much own code. On a first sight all that has to be done is to rename all *Peer*-things into *Web*-things, remove the parts not needed for webcache and maybe adjust some socket timeouts. If everything goes good, we could have a new test client for the weekend (I shouldn't have said that ).

My heart is jumping!!!
As one of the first people helping to develope the idea of the webcaching in the main thread, i'm very happy to see, that it will work.
Some things:
For better testing you/we should start a registration. Where people who want to join alpha testing, can do so.
The someone should create an proxy on his pc. This doesn't have to be the big connection. There are just small chunks. This is better for loggin and so on.
Everybody should meet in an irc channel, and then it should work.
