Always remember to backup files before atempting to change or correct anything with these files!

This guide is for users who for some reason has a corrupt download. You will need to download the SF-IOM mod to complete the guide. Download the binaries and unrar them to some location on your hard drive.
  • Recover the link for the file
You can find all the ed2k links of current downloads in the downloads.txt file located in eMule's install directory. Remember to choose the right one.

  • Recreate the .met file
Use the file link to start the download in the SF-IOM mod. You should start the download paused, since you don't want to actually start downloading the file. This can be done in eMule's preferences. Check which .part.met number it was assigned which can be done by right clicking the file -> Show File Details -> Part.met File. Now exit the SF-IOM mod and delete both the .part.met file and .part of the new download. Rename the old .part file (from the broken download) to the number of the new .part file (the one you just deleted) eg. 001.part. Now restart the SF-IOM mod. It will ask if to recover the download and you answer "Yes". A new .part.met file with no gaps will be created.

  • Let the SF-IOM mod start downloading the file
Start downloading the file in the SF-IOM mod. It will do the following things the official can't:
-Ask for a hashset for a gap-less file, and persist, trying client after client, until one agrees to send a valid hashset.
-Upon receiving the hashset, it will rehash the file, and detect which gaps are complete, and which still need to be downloaded. It will only share the confirmed complete chunks after that.

  • Continue the download
Completing all of the above steps you should now have saved your broken download. You can now continue the download in either your prefered eMule client or continue using the SF-IOM mod.
Saving broken downloads this way has one large advantage. Completing the guide you will now have a back-up of all of your .part.met files stored in the .part.met index, so if one of you downloads are lost again, you will only need to start up the SF-IOM mod and answer "Yes" when it asks if to recover the download. You won't have to do anything else, everything will be done for you. This won't, however, apply to files you start downloading after you switch back to you preferred eMule client, only those you were downloading while using SF-IOM.

Credit goes to SlugFiller and the SF-IOM mod!

If something like this is not in eMule, then why isn't it?

Wouldn't it be much easier to take the ed2k link from the download.txt which the official client introduced and therefore is in basically every eMule client?

Just wondering :-k.

P.S.: downloads.txt contains the part files names with their corresponding ed2k links.

Edit: There is also a downloads.bak in case your downloads.txt is lost.

I restored some files with metmedic. First it gave me some errormessages, but when I put the Sensitivity on medium it worked great. The problem was that I needed to know what file it was that got corrupted. Since I didn't knew that for some files, I lost some partial downloads.

I personally would prefer it if the downloads.txt was backed up regularly with some sort of past date back up system. Something that would not allow your downloads.txt file to be completely lost in case of a few restarts that have erased the files from the list.

A way to easily fix this would be for eMule to keep track of all the download links in a file that could be called download_history.txt. This list would have a limit to how many links could be stored based on the file size. So if the file gets to big then the last link on the list would be removed to make room for the new link. If a duplicate link is added then that link should just be moved to the beginning of the list instead of making any redundancy.

I would also like the option to have the download history also include the full file hash set in the links when it is made available. This could be a selectable download history option and does not need to be activated by default.

I know, there is an anwser in the manula, but somehow I don't get it.

How do I recognize a corrupt/ fake/ inavalid download?

Also, it occured that there were negative comments for a couple files, that I was downloading, claiming those fails were fakes, but after several hours those comments had vanished again.

I do hope this is the right thread for this, if not please tell me where to go.

Hi
Does anyone know how to fix things when my met files are 0 bytes?
eMule crashed and now when I start it up it list about 20 part files that can't be loaded because they're corrupt. The met files associated with the part file are all 0 bytes.

How do I fix this?

Regards,
John

Please..Is There something wrong with me? I am using Emule plus 1m...Is a currupted file one with an invalid part-met file? Whats the text file referred to earlier in this guide....What Exactly do I download from the SF-10M website? What I have downloaded just seems to be another earlier version of Emule.!!!!!

When half my partial downloads disappeared and the server told me they were "error invalid part met file version" ...I went into Emule plus's Temp folder and copied the relevant part, met part etc files to another folder for backup...
I downloaded DonkeyDoctor(does not work?) and medmedic which I do not think i have set right to process files...

I have spend days going back through past mail on support re the "error invalid part met file version" problem......It seems to me that no one wants to address the problem with a proper guide with clear instructions that even beginners and dumbies like myself can understand on the best way to at least try and get ones files back....For me this is literally months of continuous downloading and losing everything in an instant for some unknown reason is a disaster...

Surely a moderator of the support group could draw up an easy guide with exact instructions in plain language in a few minutes ...on how best to tackle the problem I am referring to or is it too much to ask .....Then the many people with the problem seeking information can just be referred to the guide instead of being "fobbed off"

I myself think that the guide is quite easy to follow. That is why I wrote it like I did. I myself have never used eMule plus and hence have troubles supporting it. I don't know if eMule plus has a downloads.txt file or not. You have to ask a eMule plus' forums for that information.

Regarding the SF-IOM mod you can find download links for it both on it's website and in the subforum on this forum. And yes you download an older version (0.42g based) if I remember correctly.

Any specific parts of the guides that need elaboration? :)

Thankyou for your prompt reply...I certainly would like more elaboration on Part One......it confused me as I only have a part/part.met/part.met.bak/part settings/part.stats for each file I am trying to download in my Temp folder.....some files also have a part.txtsrc file ......Is it possible for you to equate these to the download text etc your guide is referring to please.....

Emule is away above my elderly brain...I did however manage to recover a part.met file using MetMedic and it did resume a file (which had got to just over 500mb of a 730mmb mpg file before curruption)...at 500mb....initially it did drop a few mb's but then carried on downloading ... I had stopped all other downloads to allow it to download on its own and its still downloading nicely at the 546mb mark.....
However
I do note in my servers log plenty of ( red ) found curruption parts ..these all appeared after I used MetMedic and got Emule Plus to start downloading .....
I do not understand whats happening so all I can do is just wait and see if it downloads the whole 730mb and if the mpg is any good when finished....
As I understand Emule does cleanup or redownload any parts that are no good....

I certainly would like to try out the method you describe ...I have another 9 files that disappeared from Emules download window due to "error invalid part.met file version"..so I still have a lot of work and learning to do..
A very grateful...
Ron NZ.

Birk...I have had a nights sleep and refreshed myself....Do you think you could give some thought to this part as this is what has confused me..

Recover the link for the file
You can find all the ed2k links of current downloads in the downloads.txt file located in eMule's install directory. Remember to choose the right one.

I wonder what the link is in Emule Plus...Is it in the Temp Folder.....Once I know what you mean by " the link "I am sure I can follow the rest of your guide..
Thanks Ron.

No support for eMulePlus here.

And an eD2K link is simply (for example):

ed2k://|file|filename|filesize|hash|/

Glad to hear that you have understodd most of it yourself. Like Obliberator said you really have to ask in eMule plus' forums to see if they have something similar to a downloads.txt. eMule plus split from the official codebase many versions ago and is not really considered a mod anymore since the codebase is quite different. Try and ask them. :)

If they do not support this I found the first text I wrote for this guide before eMule started supporting downloads.txt. That is what you have to do. :+1:

Recover the link for the file
This can be done in different ways. If you haven't closed your eMule yet you can get the link be right clicking on the file and choose "Export ED2K link to clipboard". If you can't do that your memory needs to work well because you need to recover the link "manually". If you found the file on an index site you can always get the link there or else you need to search with eMule to find the link for the file which can be quite difficult. Remember that already downloaded files, currently downloading files and shared file show up in searches in different colors than other search results.

Birk..I am stuck at the first hurdle..I downloaded and installed v0.42G SlugFiller-itsonlyme v0.41b......Although its connected its seems like it does not want to download 1 byte and if I go to Preferences/Directories it crashes......So I am stuck at first base .....I am wondering if I should download an earlier version.

Your opinion would be gratefully Received. Ron.

Did you make a clean install of the mod? Shouldn't crash like that. Did it give an error? :)
