Hmmm. That's rather a neat idea. Never thought about it before. Obviously it can't know actual line speeds and it might be awkward to get firewall/AV/software info, but other things are very possible.

What do others think?

Maybe a 'support' option in a future release of Emule? Obviously whatever or however it is done must make the user feel safe and not feel like a security threat in itself.

Yeah, line capacity is darn near impossible to determine automatically, given an unknown environment. However, firewall/AV/software could be determined by comparing the list of currently running processes with a database of known incompatible applications. It wouldn't be all that hard to work out, IMHO.

I like it as well. All I'd ask is that the Known Clients value be added to the list of values generated. And maybe a value for upload status: whether the client is uploading at it's defined max up setting plus/minus 5 percent, 9 times out of 10.

Hello everyone,

I was instructed to post my query here, which began in a different thread. Could someone please read this thread and post their most helpful answer here? I am at my wits end, so any help would be appreciated.

Thanks!

Np, you were instructed to provide the information requested in the first post of this topic, but post it in your topic.
It said: "Insert disk #3 into drive...", but only 2 will fit...?!?

cafofo - did you read the first post of this topic, where it tells you to open a new topic, and provide all the information requested?

If you don't know how to open a new topic, click New User Support forum or the "support - do you need help" forum and press the "new topic" button there.

It looks like you have a firewall problem btw, and have too many servers. To try some self help before making a topic, look in quick help & guides. Follow the instruction in trebla's serverlist topic to get a good serverlist and ipfilter. Then read the lowID topic. You need to allow emule full access via your firewalls. If you still have problems after that, then DO open a new topic, as described above. And if you don't know where to find some of the information asked for, do say so, instead of simply giving a bit of information. hth

@ Mods - Isn't it time some of these information stickies were locked?
Are we nearly there yet?

I have exempted the appropriate ports from my Windows Firewall through Control Panel, and have gone into my Router into a "Packet" filter setting, and done this:

Posted Image

I think I have done that correctly: the Packet Filter seemed to be the most relevant option.

However, whenever I do the Test Ports it still always fails. Also, whenever I hit Connect it doesn't work, though below the Connect button (in the Servers area) it has a different port (which I have since unlocked on Windows Firewall), and empty spaces to fill in an "IP" and "Name", and I'm unsure if these need to be filled (or if I'm even up to that yet seeming my port tests are failing).

I guess I'm just quite confused, despite having followed directions to the best of my ability.

Can anybody help me?

This is not a support topic. You need to open your own topic in the Support section. We will not help you in this topic.

Or in xscarab's words just above your post:

This thread is based on VQB's old thread which is out of date.

...and has also been deleted!

Can I suggest that the requested info should also ask for CPU info (make/model, number and speed), memory capacity, and HDD capacity and usage? More often than not, problems are caused by inadequate storage space or low memory etc rather than by any particular application.
