Basically there are several ways of going about this. Since version 0.42e an option to to enable/disable autocompletion was added in eMule's preferences and also an option to clear the search history. Choose the one you feel most comfortable with:
  • This method disables autocompletion feature in the search history (doesn't delete)
In eMule's Preferences -> Display you have to option to disable or enable the autocompletion feature to your liking. This will make all previous searches not show up again but the searches are still located in the AC_SearchStrings.dat file in eMule's Config folder.

  • This method clears the search history.
In eMule's Preferences -> Display press the "Reset" button located near the "Auto completion" entry. This will delete the search history.

  • This method clears the search history.
Place your mouse curser in the search box. While located there press ctrl+delete at the same time and the search history is cleared.

The following methods achieve the same as the ones above by editing eMules settings directly:

  • This method clears the search history. To be done only with eMule shut down!
Navigate to eMule's config folder and open the AC_SearchStrings.dat file with notepad. This is where the search history is saved. Here you can delete all or some of the entries and the search history is cleared.

  • This method deactivates the autocompletion. To be done only with eMule shut down!
Navigate to eMule's config folder and open the preferences.ini file. Search for the UseAutoCompletion=1 entry and write UseAutoCompletion=0 instead (change the 1 to a 0) and close the file. Now the autocompletion is disabled next time you run eMule.

What about when you search for something, the files that you have already downloaded are colored green and are marked "Downloaded". Can you clear that history/disable it?

I'm running 0.43b.

-edit-
And by the way, I did run a search, and found multiple times to delete "AC_SearchStrings.dat". I cannot locate this file within eMule/config (both with eMule on and off) .
ALT + DEL and CTRL + DEL doesnt work either. That is why I'm posting.

You can delete your known.met and the eMule will create a new file. Problem is it will rehash all your shares. :)

Reset button doesn't clear search history.
It only removes the current search words. (but keeps them in history)

You are quite right but they don't appear again even after restarting eMule despite they are still located in AC_SearchStrings.dat. Unless someone know to look in that file the effect is pretty much the same. Will change it nonetheless to be more accurate. :)

You dont have to delete the: "AC_SearchStrings.dat" file but to open it with Notepad and clear or edit its content.
The file is locate in "..:\Program Files\eMule.config" folder.

@Birk/Paco:

Why is method 2 marked as 'verions prior to 0.42e'? Surely this should be 'version 0.42e and up'? (or indeed 'all versions' whichever is true!)

Here is another solution (tested and works on v0.47b and should work on ALL versions)

go th the "AC_SearchStrings.dat" file. right click then select "properties"

check "read only" & "hidden"

Uncheck "archive"

hit "OK"

presto! :-k

(Make sure you have "autocompletion" disabled)

Hi, I'm new here, and need some help. I have the opposite problem. I want to know if I can get back my search history (the red and green). I lost all previous history after doing a PC scan. A few years of history is gone. I hope it's possible to do this. Tried a file recovery, but not sure what file it is, if it's even there. Please help. Thanks!

You can try to recover known.met, known2_64.met, cancelled.met with, for example, recuva.
They are in your eMule config folder.
