The easiest way is using Nero (or something similar) and creating a (S)VCD, Nero will reencode your xvid to mpeg, and it will play on your standalone dvd player, if it's capable of doing this.

Roxio is vile shitware wich tends to render the PC unusable.
It is not recomended to install it.
Nero has a trial version here
If it is not one thing, it is another....

Software is a matter of taste, and I can say the same thing about Nero as h0plaa said about Roxio.

Both Nero 6 and Roxio 6 will do the job you want. So take your choice and try it, if you don't like it try the other one.

But of course you can...users can say anything they want, thats the thing usually
refered as a democracy and freedom of speach, but that does not make it true,
does it now?

Once you recode that Divx file to VCD you'll find it multiplies in size due to compression ratios between the 2 formats. And might even have a problem with no audio due to the extreme compression the DivX format uses.

Do this using Nero Express and burn it to your DVD. Nero will re-encode it for you. (you may need the mpeg2 plug-in first, though)

It would probably work best if you used TMPGenc to put it in vcd format, also since you said it was already in xvid format, some dvd players actually support the xvid codec, not many but a few.
