here's my Q: anyone ever got any source via Kad ?
u can check ur statics page, there's a column described how sources were found.
since 0.40a (can't recall which version exactly tho), i've never seen numbers other than '0' there ;)

Edit: darn typo ;)

Yes, I did.

When I add a new file, half of the sources found are by Kad, other via server. After a while naturally about 90% are by source exchange, but that's how emule works. So for me, servers aren't really needed anymore.

According to the stats 73% source exchange, 5% server, 3.5% kad.

That again shows, source exchange is the most important thing and kad and server are only needed for the first few sources. The benefit of kad over server is that you can also find sources for files that are very rare as eventually you will ask every kad client if he has that file other than via server where it might happen that a source is hid from you forever (if he's on a server not in your list and also is the only source so SE can't help).

Depends how popular the file is and which network you connect to first. If you are connected first to kad you will see lots of clients being found by kad.

Well of course source exchange is the dominating way the clients are found :-k.

Three Rings for the Elven-kings under the sky,
Seven for the Dwarf-lords in their halls of stone,
Nine for Mortal Men doomed to die,
One for the Dark Lord on his dark throne
In the Land of Mordor where the Shadows lie.
One Ring to rule them all, One Ring to find them,
One Ring to bring them all and in the darkness bind them
In the Land of Mordor where the Shadows lie.

i've tried to download some files with popular keywords like s*x, f*ck, which all got hundreds of sources in search tab,
but still no luck, when i download these files and connect to Kad only, not a single source shown after hours ;)

I think the issue is just the way kademlia finds files. It takes longer till the results can be returned therefore you are more likely to find sources via ed2k. If the sources are really rare and/or located on some obscure server it is more likely to find them via kademlia.

Yes, I think it's like Andu says, I download rather rare files (fansubbed anime mostly) and with those I get these Kad results.

I have the same experience. For rare files you will find very often sources first with kademlia.

For very rare files I have trouble with only Kademlia, but all other things work just as good.

Well the problem with your very rare file currently is that there are only few users on kad so far. Once all eMule clients make the transition your search results for very rare files will be far better with kad. Only problem then will be if those very rare files are released by a non eMule client.

fellas here i go again :P

i've done a test yesterday, i downloaded official 0.41b.29 binaries, extracted it to a new dir and exec emule.
Kad bootstrap from my another computer, Kad status was "Open", then i searched sources via Kad, there were plenty, so far so good :flowers:
later on i downloaded the most popular files, left emule running and went to bed, the next day i got up, guess what? all files were still in red ;)

to the conclusion, i've got no problem doin' my Kad searchin' but big problem with Kad source-findin'
well, i guess i'm still not lucky enough then :xgrin:
