UK resident here... just thought i'd let you know of how it is for me... DSL with Telewest.

I've been getting steadily decreasing speeds for the last 2/3 days... and wierd messages like 'UDP Failure: A non-blocking port operation could not be executed' or something to that effect.... it usually went away after changing ports.

Today it refused to work at all...
I've solved it (for now) by climbing into the 12k (!) port numbers :(
If they keep going like this ill be in the 6 digit ports by april...

<Yarr! the best best ports for your eMule is 123098786 tcp, 132565107 udp and 178688768 for kademlia!>

This is getting a bit ridiculous.. at least for me... :ranting:

Here's to hoping they all choke on one giant pretzel!

There are no 6 digit ports. Ports only go up to 65536 I think.

Yes, this same thing happened to me. I was originally only getting about a steady 4 to 5 KB/s, after even 5 days! Then, a couple weeks ago, I read a post about changing your ports, I changed them, and WOW! Instead of 4 or 5 KB/s, I was getting a steady 79.4 KB/s!! Thats about a 16 fold increase! And on other files I was downloading later I had a steady 30 to 45 KB/s. Sure, there's the odd rare file that I can only get 3, but on really popular ones, my eMule is so much faster!! :D

P.S. I just use 14662 and 14672 because I'm lazy and it was just easier to put a 1 in front of them in eMule and my router! :D

Imagine this....

Perhaps your isp isnt doing the blocking, perhaps other isps are blocking there users from contacting by blocking the defautl port, changing port is just giving you a bit of a boost :P

Maybe there should be an explicit warning about this issue in the connections wizard?

Trouble is, of course, that many of the server connection messages are just full of crap and generally in languages that I cannot read (ie. not English).

Hi....... :D New to this board and emule, so I am still learning (Oh, god, so much to learn!!!)

For those that want to read the server messages try:

this online Translator

German, Spanish, French etc.......even Chinese......lol :P

Can anyyou help?

I always get High ID until I change my network card, I now get low ID all the time. Is this a possible reason or is there something else?

I also tried using ports 9662 and 9672. No help there.

I am using WIn XP

As a quick guess, I would say that XP has re-enabled the built-in firewall when you changed your network card. See if this is the case in the "Properties/Advanced" section against your network card. The protect box should be unchecked, unless you intend to configure the ports for eMule use. :)

I Have Been Using BY since 1998 and i have never had problems with P2P proggies
although they scorn @ it in their T&Cs .
my eMule 042e is using default ports and have reached UL:DL Ratios of 1:5.78
tho my current Ratio is 1:4.25 this is because of the rare files i am getting so i dont
think they are throttling stuff.

It is interesting that different BY users are reporting different levels of "interference". I wonder whether, or not, the problem is related to which particular BY hub/region you are being serviced from?

The standard eMule ports are no good for my BY 1Mb service. Perhaps there are a higher proportion of P2P "offenders" in West Yorks. ;)

Hi there this seems to be a really usefull post nice one guys!

but one problem i am not very computer literate when it comes to the firewalls and ports so question.

i know where to change ports on preferences in emule, what i dont understand is what do you mean i have to change emule ports on router port? how do i do this?

and about firewall, how do i let certain ports through it, i thought you can either disable it (taking tick off box) or enable it. bah i just dont get this firewall business and where else to change ports

thanks for any help

What kind of firewall do you have?
The problem is not the client, it's the user

Wait a minute... changing ports will give me better speeds? Every time i dont use the same port number as the server im connecting to i get a low id warning or cant even connect at all. I didn't know you could use some random port number, remembering to also set it on the firewall and router and a number under 65XXX. Shit I'm lucky to get past 20Kb/s while DL'in.

OMFG!
People, i love you!
I was reading the "Why Are My Downloads So Slow." topic, and stumbled across a link to this topic. Changed my ports, and HOORAY! Instant shootup to 20-30kB/s! Before i changed ports, 20-30 was MAX after a week, now, its instant!

I still cant wait and see what happens after a week... oh golly, this feels like christmas :xknip:
got 2048/512, btw... so lets see if i can reach max :D

edit:  THREE hours and my download is 100kB/s!

Im on BY, and I am getting a consistant high ID and no problems at all. But im not using the default ports, im on 7315/4671.

The only problem I have with BY is their connection is very assymetric. 768 down, 128 up. Thats a 6:1 ratio. As a result, dispite having emule uploading constantly I have still downloaded twice as much as uploaded.

@goldenpi: I have never been so proud reading the words of a fellow eMuler. You are the first user I've ever heard of who ever felt guilty about downloading more than he uploaded. You truely set a proud example for eMule users everywhere.
Now if only one could get some of them to follow...
