What about old Kad versions ? Do we need to block the use of them ?

Unknow1 I forgot to thank you to try to improve Emule, and most of it the protocol itself. As Lugdunummaster told me, the network will not be able to handle more users if we stick with a 3 years old protocol. It's a shame that the 16.40 server comes at the same time a serverless client appear again. Nevermind, it's like thing happends.

I've read that the most important change on Kad .13 is a change on the network protocol and have you subtitle this release "a must upgrade".
I didn't had the time to check these changes but I trust you on that point.
So what about the "old" version ? Are they still compatible with the new one ?
Did it harm the network ? I saw one of your post saying a bug will desapear when pple will abandon the 0.39 version, but pple STILL use it.
I didn't followed the protocol differences on plain Emule client, but it's the same with it. Some pple still using 0.19 version, and I don't talk about the 0.2x versions.

How will you manage all the protocol improvements with clients wich didn't reply correctly, split the Kad network or even worse "block" it ?
I beleive on these "public alpha" release you must add a http:// check or something like that to avoid ppl sticking with bad/old versions. If you still publish a version per day you will have soon 1256325  versions on nature.
Hope this remark is usefull. Let me know if I'm just paranoïd...

Unless there is a big huge bug in "40c" I'm going to let this run a while to analize the network as it grows.. Spreading it through ED2K links only acutally helps keep the network at a gradual growth.. As the network would do strange things if it instantly went from 0 to 500K...

Now, yes, 39x did interfere with 40a and 40b... Although not much.. I found something that wasn't good with 40a&b so I decided to do a fix all solution..

So, 40c does not communicate in any way (Kademlia wise) to any previous kademlia client.. It's a whole new network...

40a and 40b is defaulted to tell the user to upgrade once every 5 days... So, hopefully they will follow the link supplied and update...
