As internet connection has evolved from squeaky modems to cable and ADSL and now various versions of fiber optics, eMule still insists on almost prehistoric protocols and is thus perpetually stuck on LowID and I'd have to go out of my way to get it to HighID. And as we know, LowID sucks and with already small user base, everyone having LowID, what's even a point of still bothering with eMule when fiber basically in all cases means you're stuck with LowID because of just how it works? On top of that KAD has been left to rot and is still adhering to some idiotic limitations imposed back when people still used modems to a point whole reliance on non centralized network is totally useless because it publishes the files slower than slapping a USB drive with shared data on a snail and sending that snail on a boat from Europe to USA and it would probably arrive faster.

I don't get it why nothing has been done to eMule to get HighID easier or at all and update KAD so it would even do anything. It's such a waste of what used to be a great archive of ultra rare ancient stuff and now it's just useless. Why?

This discussion topic is very old and since then, nothing changed because there is nobody to do that. Of courese it would be awesome to have a Stullemule or MorphXT with that... So, youre free to implement it^^

The normal version is now updated, but its like the official. so no features from mods. I.e for me, i cant use and test it, because you cant bind it to a interface. (iam using VPN)

Now and then, there are people in this forum trying something with their versions, but until now, nothing gone public... (Theres actually a new discussion today with Neo)

Also some with experience in programmeing are saying, the standart emule program needs to get a lot of rework to get IPv6 and NAT implemented.

Lets hope for the best.

The issue is not the lack of someone willing to improve on the protocol, but the lack of an official commitment to endorse such an extended client using updated protocols on the official homepage. As without a sufficient user bases all protocol improvements are pointless.

NeoLoader is a new file sharing client, supporting ed2k/eMule, Bittorent and one click hosters,
it is the first client to be able to download form multiple networks the same file.
NL provides the first fully decentralized scalable torrent and DDL keyword search,
it implements an own novel anonymous file sharing network, providing anonymity and deniability to its users,
as well as many other new features.
It is written in C++ with Qt and is available for Windows, Linux and MacOS.

All these new dream features like IPv6, bittorrent based protocol and a robust DHT already exist in the form of IPFS.
What's really needed is a new client that brings the Emule UI and features over to IPFS, making it usable for the masses.

And why people mostly abandoned eMule in the first place? It was slow to share files, particularly KAD is just plain useless because it was made with dialup in mind at times when majority of users had at least DSL of some sort and now we're all on multi-megabit optic fiber connections, it had absurd connection issues even back in the day and with LowID the experience is just miserable and today, the way connections apparently work, I can't even get HighID no matter what I do.

Interface is the LEAST of its problems because I still find it perfectly good and easy to navigate and use. It's just that I basically can't share or download anything because it's just broken. Torrents I use, but they are hassle finding webpages with sources and sharing is stupid with how it works in "sharing clusters" around particular download. I just don't like it and I always preferred eMule's way of things.

It's really frustrating to see how eMule has fallen behind in terms of technology and user expectations. With modern internet connections, it's unacceptable that we still have to deal with LowID and all the connection issues that come with it. The KAD network, which was innovative back in the dial-up days, now feels like an outdated relic that doesn't hold up in the fiber optic era.

The lack of official updates and support to modernize eMule is a significant issue. We need to see improvements like IPv6 and NAT support, as well as an overall overhaul of the protocols to make the user experience smoother and more efficient. The community's efforts to create their own versions and improvements are commendable, but without widespread adoption and official endorsement, these efforts often fall short.

Alternatives like NeoLoader and IPFS are promising, offering modern features and better performance. However, there's something about the eMule interface and way of sharing that many of us still prefer. It's a shame that we can't have the best of both worlds—a modernized eMule that retains its unique features while adopting new technologies.

Here's hoping that we can see some official commitment to updating eMule and bringing it into the present day. The potential is there; we just need the right support and development to unlock it.
