Dear Sir(s)

I have NORD VPN and I am not sure I need it. When I connect to EMULE without a VPN it lists the connection as "obfuscated" Well if the connection is already “obfuscated” why would I want to connect with VPN which gives me a LOWID and connecting to EMULE without VPN I get a HIGHID

Thank you in advance for whomever gives me the answer,

GLENN

Obfuscation only makes it harder to find out what kind of data your are sending, it doesn't protect your identity. It was build to avoid deep packet inspection and throttling.

Imagine you sending a postcard to your friend: Your friend knows what you wrote, everyone who looks at the postcard knows what you wrote and everyone knows who sent it and who received it.

With obfuscation it's a letter. Your friend knows what you wrote and everyone knows who sent and received it.

With VPN: Your friend knows what you wrote but he doesn't know who you are (however your VPN provider knows instead).

Nord VPN doesnt support Port Forwarding. Its impossible to get a High ID with that VPN Service.

Techically its better to have a high id in emule or "NAT OK" in bittorrent (which still works "enough" most of the time due to IPv6 support). A VPN adds a bit more annonymity. But for Internet over TV cable user like me in germany, its the only way to get a high id.

Of course NordVPN is the best when it comes to marketing and placing adds, but they arent good and have some issues in the past.

I recommend AirVPN.

Which IPv6 support, eMule doesnt support IPv6 (or do you mean mods? which one?)
Does this imply that you get a single IPv6 dedicated with NordVPN? But you still need to have control over ports?

I have EXACTLY the same problem!!!! If I connect without a VPN connection, I get a HIGHID and with that; excellent downloads. If I connect with Express VPN or Nord VPN; I get a LOWID and very bad downloads. I have tried everything that I can think of. I would appreciate a reply if you figure it out.

Thank you in advance

most VPN services dont support port forwarding. Express and Nord dont either... So its impossible. You get a high id without, because you get a normal ipv4 from your ISP. If you wouldnt (like in my case over TV cable), you wouldnt get a high id too.

A lot of VPN Services say they support or allow filesharing, P2P. But thats rarely include port forwarding. If they have servers in their list marked as p2p, its often because, the dont want these users bothering the other normal user.

@megaT i try it in english and short^^

maybe i wasnt differing it enough in my post, only bittorrent supports ipv6, so these programs works for downloaders most of the time ok. Windows updates, game patches ect. The thing with the ports/high id is important to be reachable as a source in the ed2k net. Bittorrent gives you a torrent file which contains sources for http or direct ips, in some cases even only a DHT source. If you have the High ID oder "NAT Ok", you reach way more clients and connections are made faster or even possible. But if you are a Uploader/releaser (so you are the only one with this file complete!) and have low id in emule or in torrent arent "ok", other would have big problems to establish a connection or even find you. Peer Exchange doesnt work at this stage too. This will change maybe with active DHT in Torrent and KAD in emule. KAD tries to get you a "buddy" with a high id if you have a low id and route the informations through him. In Torrent as i stated before, the htpp or ip source helps a lot to start as a releaser/uploader. theres peer injection which could work too. (of course its very bad if all clients for a file have a low id)

i think this is going to far now. But both systems have some ways to get around port problems, but its not nice^^ Its just working on the lowest before not working, not more^^

Hm, i think you get a ipv6 from nordvpn, but i cant say for sure. but it would be way easier for them as to provide only ipv4. AirVPN give you both or you can choose which you want in the eddie client for every session.
