eMule remains very useful in special for the more rarified items.
Would really love to see a new Windows client.

Have you ever seen NeoLoader? Its Qt and it can download ed2k and also torrents. And it even suports IPv6, and Nat-Traversal
CheersDavid X.
it is the first client to be able to download form multiple networks the same file.
NL provides the first fully decentralized scalable torrent and DDL keyword search,
it implements an own novel anonymous file sharing network, providing anonymity and deniability to its users,
as well as many other new features.
It is written in C++ with Qt and is available for Windows, Linux and MacOS.

in fact the project didn't die - I took a hiatus off it.
I recently began implementing KAD2 and still am on it... still the only dev on this project.

But it's okay, its just an hobby afterall...

the user interest was next to non existent
I checked your repo, you clearly had user interest. You have a good amount of users trying to help you with reports :s

It's not easy to gain public interested, and even more harder to get other devs to join along. It requires constant progress. And you know it, you're the current Sandboxie maintainer

You should keep updating your program, it's a good idea and as you can see, even last year users were posting in your repo asking for the actual status.
P.S: small typo on your website, on main page:

No, the code is not published.
Well originally I was looking for a team to gather, but then I realized nobody cares for this anyways.

So in the state where I am now, I think I'll just continue do it on my own...

Trust me, there're still enough people who cares out there.
I would like to help with some fancy features once you've done with the base codes. With your consent of course.

Well, i have over 48 repositories on GitHub. I never expect anyone to join them, but i still make sure they're accessible as i like the sharing philosophy and i believe they may be useful to someone.
Example, a bricks game:
