Hello, Everybody!

Thank-you for a wonderful, helpful sharing community.

I'm having an issue with the port test page from within the 0.51b version of emule. Whenever I try to test my ports its always showing the TCP port as closed. I was using SPECTRUM internet (I forget what this is called elsewhere) I'm from the Eastern United States. Just switched over to Verizon using a new service called 'Visible' for a $40.00 flat rate included taxes. Supposed to have unlimited internet..some have said unthrottled. It allows for one hotspot connection which I'm using to my laptop running Windows Vista Ultimate on an older Alienware M17x (original model I think)

I don't have any access to get into or set or change anything in my cable modem...currently connecting only through my phones hotspot which is a ZTE A7 prime if that helps.

The error message I get on the website is: Notice: Undefined index: obf in /var/www/www/porttest/htdocs/ct_frame.php on line 15

Is it even possible to unblock ports with either Spectrum or Verizon (through a subcontractor they own that uses their towers called 'Visible')

Best Regards, - tirdil

First of all, even though this is unrelated to your issue, please upgrade 0.51b to 0.51d.

Next, a small piece of theory.
High ID (and successful port test) is possible only if ISP gives a public IP, and you have either a direct connection or can open ports in the router (or modem/router combo). For the latter - admin access to the router's settings would be required.
Mobile internet or Wi-Fi hotspot usually imply that you are behind a router and cannot open ports. This ends up with low ID and failed port test.

An article at Tom's guide site says that Visible is for LTE smartphones. This means mobile internet.

In case of a cable modem you need a public IP, and additionally open ports for a modem/router.
