A lot of times I need to locate a single file in the download screen, by its part.file.name like 131.part.
I am downloading hundreds of files at once, so open properties to each one of them, in order to locate a single file is very heavy burden.
Is there a way to add a column displaying this file number (like 131), and to be able to sort all the downloaded files by this column (like any other column: file.name, size, progress, etc…)?
That will be great.

You'll find that numbers easily in the temporary folder (if it's not completed yet).

Yes. I know. I am talking about examine a file in the temporary folder (while in explorer), and decide that I want to cancel its download. So I go back to Emule program and find it very hard to locate that file, since I have now only its numeric-name (like "003.part"). I need some column that will supply this exact value.

Lots of useful information could be found in Docs.

Thanks fox88. I have looked in the docs. It cannot help me, because it is a feature that does not exists yet.I find it hard explaining myself because of my pure English.

At the moment I am downloading 650 files at once. All of them did not finish download yet. Some of them got enough data to preview in explorer but not in Emule (they are too small sized). I want to cancel un-needed download, so still in explorer, I see the preview, and decide to cancel this download (which is still in progress).
I go back to Emule but all I have is the unique-hash-number of this file (i.e. 370.part).
Emule cannot help me locating this file. I have to press 'properties' to each of those 650 files to search that number.
A new column showing this number will solve it. Thanks.

Adding this new column will be great, but if it is difficult, the second best fix will be at least to allow "preview" of all files, regardless of their size.
For example, you are not allowed to perform "preview" to a movie file smaller than 30 MB. Canceling this limitation will ease deciding of stopping a file download, while still in the middle of downloading.

Please try to follow the given link and carefully read; additional column would not be necessary.

Currently, preview requires the first and the last chunks, which makes about 18 MB. This could be found in Docs also.

Dir fox88,

1. when I am in windows explorer, in most of the cases, I can preview a downloading Emule movie, even if it does not have the last chunks at all and also has only 2 MB downloaded in the first chunk. players like PotPlayer, VLC player and ALLplayer do that most of the time. So please let me as the user decide if I want to try preview the movie and do not put any limitations in the Emule software. the worst that could happened is that the player will tell me - "Can not play the movie". It is not a big change in the code. and it will make my life easier. just do not limit me as a user to choose trying play the movie.

---

2. I read all the help document and there is no answer to the first problem I wrote about in the opening post, about an additional column for the "part file number". I understand that this fix will demand some work to do, but as for today, Emule can not give you a solution to this situation.

Thank you very much
Tog Ingi

Time ago I met the same problem described by togingi: to solve the problem I needed a lot of patience to look at all the files' property in eMule.

I agree that a column with the name of the temporary file can really help this situation.

Dir fox88,

Please reconsider my 2 requests above:

1) Add a column for the "part file number".

2) Allow preview a movie without regardless which chunks already received, just play the movie no matter what. in the worst case the player will say it can't play it. That’s ok.

If you actually read the page by given link, you'd see that new "part file number" column isn't needed - there's already the way to get the mapping.

Emule doesn't play any movie - that's your video player job. Change it or set it up correctly.

1) As I wrote, I already read the link. In "transfers" page, when marking a single download, if I hover on "file name", a popup appears showing among else the "part number". Or, I can press "details" to get the part number.
This is only practical if you have just several files, like till 20 downloads at most. But it is very hard when you have 600 downloads.
I have already the part number. Now I need to find the exact download with that "part number" from 600 downloads. I have to examine each one of them. It will take a LOT of time and effort.
I wish there will be a sortable column that will make this immediately.
If you did find a way that I missed, I will be very happy that you will share it (Not refer me again to link please).

2) My video player is fine. I have several players and they are well configured. If I try to run the part file" via "file explorer", the video player is showing well the movie. no problem.
The problem is entirely inside Emule, which today allows "preview" only if the first and last chunk were already received. Although a lot of times the video player CAN play the video, Emule does not allow it.
Today I cannot force Emule to run the player, and that is exactly my request. It should be my decision if I want to run it.
Nothing will happen if the player will inform "it cannot play the movie". It is my computer and my wasted time, so give me that option.

A quote from the page by provided link:

Quote

A downloads.txt file is created in the eMule directory. It contains each file in the dowloads list as eD2k with its associated .part file.

When/if I need to find a mapping between a .part file and other information, I open downloads.txt, search (Ctrl+F/F3/whatever shortcut your software has) there by a known .part name and have all required information that I can act on.

Adding an additional column means exposing internals, answering future questions about its meaning and cementing the way eMule stores its temporary files (theoretically this part might change in the future).

About video player I might've misunderstood you. I only start .part files by going into downloading directory and starting a video player by myself (mplayer works the best for me here).
Some players behave poorly on trying to play an incorrect video. I had few BSOD by using ZoomPlayer, MPC and other players in the past for example. Even allowing playing a first downloaded chunk is risky. And you're asking for future bug reports while you can get what you need by starting a video player in dowloading directory
