I had started to think eMule didn't exist anymore. Then I found it. But can someone please explain where and how do I get servers? I haven't used eMule in awhile and I guess there's been a few changes.
any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hi,

Nothing really changed in setting up and running emule.
Initial setup/ configuration of router and bla may be a bit laborious, but set it up once, then runs for years.

You can still get a serverlist from good old http://gruk.org/list no, wait, that one is monthes old, mostly servers that do not exist. Looks like their script broke.

alternatively, here: http://www.emule-sec...y.org/index.php (these also provide nodes.dat and IP-filter, should you need/want that)
or also here: https://edk.peerates...ne-servers-list

what has changed is that there are two servers that (claim to) only index files of known-to-not-infringe-copyrights: peerates.net server and I think also peerbooter.
TVUnderground server will work for some users, but not for others. I don't know why, can't be arsed to care about it.

So maybe put these at low "priority", for me that is enough to make sure eMule is connected with other, fully-working severs in sessions usually 30 to 60 days long.

------------------

What has changed is : it is a significantly lower number of users in ed2k network, so if one shares really obscure files / files of a language* with low number of ed2k-users then it can get difficult to actually fill up one's uploading.

also, as a HighID user, with the high % of LowID users and sharing/downloading rare files, file transfer to a good part has become 1-to-1 transfer, aka I am uploading all of the file(s) to some downloader, resp. I am downloading all of the file(s) from one user.
This however, at least for me, did not affect overall speed for downloads - what's no longer there in number of users on individual files has been made up by uploaders with making-me-jealous high upload speeds.

Also, what I have a lot more than in "olden times" is that downloads are initially shown with no sources at all, then an hour later, or two weeks later there's one source out of nowhere uploading like mad and files finished after (then) very short time.

You can run emule without servers at all, Kademlia-only, but should you want to search for files within eMule, then I advise against it.
When I search for rarer files, then I almost always do the search twice : server (global) to see what is online right now, and Kademlia to see what was online during the - don't really know - last 3 days? last week? but may not be onlyine right now.
The downloads found this way through searching Kademlia will then sometimes sit there with no source, but sources often coming back and as above, upload at crazy high speeds.

Also, probably because of lower number in users overall, the discrepancy weekdays/weekend has become even more noticeable. So, whenever you can't find sth. on weekends, search again weekdays - and vice versa.

-------------------
* eg. German. :(
most alive: Italian, that is the one language in which downloading/uploading is almost as it was back then for files other than Italian, too.
and porn, I assume.
