eMule will always minimize to the "tray", which is called the notification area...

In the settings, I've unticked "minimize to tray".

I tried ticking it, OK-ing the dialogue, minimizing and restoring the app, going back to settings, unticking the setting again, OK-ing the dialogue again, closing eMule and restarting it, and it's still only able to minimize to the notification area. It isn't ever able to minimize normally.

Is there anything I can do to work around this issue?
Either way, I hope this can get a proper fix at one point.

Tested with eMule 0.50a on Windows 10.

Did you check if (in settings, personalisation, taskbar, notification area, select which icons appear on the taskbar) always show all icons in the notification area is enabled or disabled?
Did you try emule0.50b beta1?
What antivirus/firewall/antimalware/antispyware are you using?
Are you using special theme settings?

By the way, I made a bit of tries with "minimize to system tray" unticked, emule always opened/running.

1) always show all icons in the notification area, emule on: emule will go in the notification area (if not at first resume, at the second or at third or.. Unpredictable).
2) never show all icons in the notification area, emule on: emule will go in the notification area (if not at first resume, at the second or at third or.. Unpredictable).
3) never show all icons in the notification area, emule off: emule will go in the notification area (if not at first resume, at the second or at third or.. Unpredictable).
Later, I found it always sets itself on ON.
I expected at least this settings could have solved the problem...
4) always show all icons in the notification area, emule off: emule will go in the notification area (if not at first resume, at the second or at third or.. Unpredictable).

It seems indeed something changed.
Sometimes I had the opposite problem: I couldn't minimize it to the tray.

Hi,

from this help page:

Quote

If this option is disabled a second minimize button will be added to the title bar, allowing you to minimize both to the task bar and to the system tray.

That does not work on Win10 (at least by default)... but "right clicking" in the title bar appears the option to minimize to the taskbar:

I can confirm this bug too. It seems fox88 fixed it in the unofficial version.

Still happening even on eMule Version 0.51a beta 7 unless the "Options/Display/Minimize to system tray" is unticked.

If eMule goes to the system tray if the option was ticked, and to the taskbar when unticked, then this was the correct behaviour.
The title told about always.

Sorry, I have not explained myself very well.
In Windows 10 when the 50.a version was minimised to tray it disappeared from the task bar however. This has changed with the newer beta, and it remains in the task bar (similar to other Windows software).
There does not appear to be a way to make it disappear from the taskbar and just be parked in the tray like it did before.
Having the display/minimise option deselected means that pressing the Windows minimise button does absolutely nothing, which is unexpected, and inconsistent with other Windows software, as it would be expected to be minimised to the task bar. Either selection of the display/minimise option still makes eMule icon remain in the task bar. It always shows in the system tray.
Perversely, having the display/minimise option deselected and double clicking the icon on the task bar makes it minimise, while having the option selected makes no difference - the program remains full screen. This is entirely opposite to other Windows programs.

Or like I saw a few years ago: Where is the BOSS key?

That is what the topic was about; and it is the same for 0.50b betas.

But your previous message was about unofficial 0.51a beta (build 7).
The issue was fixed in unofficial eMule since version 0.50b.
