I took my eMules machines pulse last night, ITS ALIVE !!!!
Uploaded Data: 5.27 TB, Downloaded Data: 2.16 TB, Runtime: 174 Days 16:11 Hours, Transfer Time: 174 Days 7:55 Hours (99.8%)( I hate Windows & reboots)......
What I want to know is whether we can save it from extinction via changing the way it functions, as I mentioned earlier in this topic, so emule/mod/whatever becomes not the victims, but the solution to P2P paranoia, and killing itunes on the way past ....
---------------------------------------
Soooooo, Maybe Emule does need a revamp, and a big one, here is my wild Idea, sorry Merkur, I know You won't like it, Movie studios etc want us for victims, lets make us victims the solution ...
Turn emule into their money pit, a version of emule incorporating, a "paypal" like system, Dedicated servers to manage it, and make them pay by, having a sliding scale on download costs,(wildly guessing) say 90% for copyrite holder(more than probably get now, if there is one...), 5% to Emule-Copyrite-management.org, for running it, & disbursement of funds, & 5% (maybe a spread via chunks d/l) to to clients that complete downloads, charging say $1 for a pre 2000 movie, cheaper for tv eps, and older, newer files up to $5 for New releases, THEY ( the idiots who want the FREE distribution Network taken down, would earn more money by people using a cost effective system, I think it would undercut Itunes etc ...
People &or neanderthals/movie studio executives who have BlueRay & DVD players will still buy a disk, to get bonus scenes of director havin a crap ....
People will still buy boxed sets, so they make their new friends be in awe of them & how much space, 1999(being kind) storage technology takes up....
.. and I maybe can help save at least bit of emule ...
I love emule 50a, and most previous versions, and will probably 50b if it happens, but there are bastards out there hunting Donkeys, Let's re-arm our asinus (Latin for Donkey), and come back fighting .....
-------------------------------
So anyone got the time to shoot me down in flames about this crazy idea ?

I am proposing what I lot of other always said, "if they charged a fair price I would buy it"
I use my mule for a lot of NON copy-write mirrors of files from www.archive.org, old silents, Newsreel, Sci-fi, Movies, and they are constantly uploaded ...
ed2k://|file|1919%20-%20Ernest%20Shackleton%20-%20South%20-%20Silent.avi|734015488|7375652A1BCA89E5EF9E938F009E1324|h=IHPB4BCEVF737675IYLBGGIBOUJ6NC6L|/
a 700meg silent, has been uploaded 19.29 GB worth, so people are using my connection, it's unlimited, so I don't care, but it would be nice if it helped to pay the internet bill ....
All I am saying by formalising it, for copywrited files, the Copywrite holders would see more money, P2P gets a dedicated server/index/payment system, and us P2P users can be the solution and not the problem ..

Don't forget that you would have to pay for your downloads.

You mean it's not yet?!
You know in Austria the UPS biggest cable provider (the only provider giving 15mbit upload in Austria on a large scale) is moving all their users to DS Lite (Double Stack Lite) connection, that is a own IPv6 subnet with a with many users shared NATed IPv4.
You can not open ports on the IPv4 part of your connection, the IPv4 is often changing, its pretty much useless for anything other than surfing the www.
Ok, for now you can call them and tell them that you will quit if they don't set you back on a normal decent dedicated IPv4 only mode, but that works only with existing customers if they argue properly that thair product have been crippled. New customers are F***ed.
So IPv6 is already now becoming mandatory and that will just get worse.
Yep. It's been 10 years since this post, and there were a few version of Community updates. But still no IPv6 support, it's still buggy, there's still no LowID to LowID connection. I pretty much can't download anything from eMule anymore. It's close to being dead.

My feeling is that a majority act in the interests of the network and community. By allowing tasks to complete. If you take the time to manually add them as a friend that greatly facilitates your ability. I may have 2k or more friends. While I realize folks have lives and they can't just let the PC or the provider run all day. Power costs money, rigs wear out, data needs more storage etc., people have things to do.
But I do feel like it's a worthy resource, for instance, if I felt I needed some book to use for reference, I'd have a 50% chance of it being here, and at least again than much that a source was around. There is also the thing about an entire coded program component dedicated to chat, with other users, mostly humans. And you can use the letters to communicate and grow relationships. Good Luck! My surprise if any is who pays to maintain the servers and bless them from a broke MF'r. Praise.
