had emule for several years and would work perfectly----after installing the oldest version I could find. once done then could install newer until got the latest and then all rocked along like no body's business. power outage killed a hard drive so installed a new one. installed the oldest version as did the last time and cannot get anything to work. testing ports always fails so disconnected the d-link router and still will not give a port test. when do get program to connect with servers take a look at kad and no links to connect to there at all--zip, nada blank page. what gives??? had checked port settings on my puter which give 6 and 7 for udp tcp. reset emule for those and get no connections at all with ed2k but when put back it will connect but not allow search etc. so pretty much useless unless I can get ports to open or figure out what is wrong with install. using win 7. have a great day.

Why would you install the oldest version you can find and only then the new one ? There is no possible gain in that procedure.

Just download and install the official newest version from here : http://www.emule-pro...l=1&rm=download

Installation itself is mostly self-explanatory.

Find out/ set ports TCP and UDP in eMule, then maybe there are detailed configuration instructions for your specific router/ router-modem model here : http://portforward.c...routerindex.htm

get a reliable serverlist from one of these sites (yes, there are only few recommendable servers left) :
http://gruk.org/list , http://edk.peerates....vers.php?lang=0 (referenced servers) or http://www.emule-sec...org/serverlist/

Peerates and Peerbooter servers are genuine servers, but designed to only reference "free" material (creative commons and such).
So maybe set those to connecting priority "low", or configure a static serverlist or such. For details see http://www.emule-pro...1&rm=show_topic

For Kademlia, either :
- once connected to servers, start some downloads and then once your eMule is in contact with some clients, bootstrap Kademlia "from known clients"
- or download a nodes.dat from e.g. also emule-security.org.

That is mostly it.
Since Servers are so scarce nowadays, for searches I usually use "search method : Kademlia"

Should you still run into problems, please post more specific help request, give some details.

so long …

PS - Which version was the oldest one you could find ?
