I didn't really understand.

With so much whining from Murphy's Whiners, I can understand the confusion. Check out further down that topic to understand why this is a whining topic as opposed to anything that could be confused with a scientific law.

Hi everyone
Sometime emule gets the best and worst in people.
Perhaps emule is something more, than just a tool to download files.

WOW!
That's deep man.
Do you have some of that stuff left? it seems to be a pretty good mind opener. ;-)

Perhaps eMule is something beyond a tool to upload files. ;)

I know this is a fun post and you guys and girls made me laugh out loud. I am not a newbi to emule BUT I seem to be unaware of certain aspects of emule that you all take for granted. I am an older person, way over 50, and download quite a few older shows. So I have encountered a lot of the problems mentioned above. I know nothing about message(ing)so if someone has tried to contact me I would not know. I try to leave the shows that I had a hard time getting on as long as I can. I keep around 600 files available for upload and have on average over 4000 in my que so it is difficult to keep everything all the time as I have a lot of information on other drives and disks. I am a BIG believer in sharing, that is why I love emule. How do you tell if a file is really rare? If I have any of these I could leave them up indefinately. Any helpful hints or suggestions, about helping people with any files I have, would be greatly appreciated. Oh, and I do keep emule running 24/7 except for reboot and other puter problems sorry if I have cut any of you off! :angelnot:

If you keep it up that much, it's easy to tell provided the current session has been running at least 12 hours. Go to Shared Files in eMule and click on the Complete Sources column to sort it. The fewer, the more rare. The ones at the top of the sort are the least rare and the ones you can most safely move out of your share folders. You can share a lot more than 600 files at once (I share over 2000 right now), so try sharing some more for a day, do the sort, move the 200 most complete out of the shared folders, move another 200 in, reload, and repeat that process as much as you like.

eMule can also automatically give priority based on rareness. If you select all your files, right click and select automatic priority, the rarest will be given the highest priority.

GRRRRR
2 effin days in a queue and the twunt gives me "on queue" and back to QR 1200 I go.
3 more effin days in a queue, and the twunt gives me 6MB of a chunk and back to QR 1350 I go.
ANOTHER 3 effin days in the queue and the twunt gives me "on queue" and back to QR 1425 I go

Why doesn't he just unshare the bloody file and put me out of my misery. 2 months and I've got 4 chunks from him and it's a 200meg file. 2 others trying to dl and not having any more luck than me. This is just the first of about 20 files. SRSLY - what is the point of having files in a shared folder if you don't upload them? :furious: :furious: :furious: :furious: :furious:

mule needs to develop some artificial intelligence at times. if he's badly configured, the mule should keep him disconnected and certainly not let him dl anything. Or just shoot him. or MY mule should should send his a message to do that!!!! (stulle.... I think I might be making a feature request in the near future :k)

Might have to go get it from torrents, but the eejit sharing there has put the 2 sets as 2x 4GB isos. And I already have several of the files from the 2nd group which I've done myself. Waste of bloody time. Waste of bloody bandwidth. I don't even WANT the bloody files, only started to dl on a whim. rant rant rant :ranting: :ranting:

Send him a message? Rarely works but maybe you are lucky. I've seen people do it for me.

That was a bit spiteful Andu, you just hoped #6 would kick in didn't you. :P

Good news and bad news on the file. Good: We all got several chunks each last week and got down to the last chunk a few days ago. <yay

Bad: :-k

And last night I was at quite a good QR and expected those 31 KB to complete overnight. Got up this morning, and my internet had borked at around 2am and I had Kad on green but no ed2k server connection (and got flicked from the servers almost quicker than I could connect to them - you should see my poor server log ), no sources and just the odd client appear in my upload (transfer) queue and immediately vanish.

Feel free to stop laughing now :respect:

Did I also mention that my 2 "colleagues" are both lowID. And one of them has disappeared this morning. My guess is he finally finished dl'ing and took great delight in immediately unsharing the file :D
And don't be fooled by the 4 hr estimated wait time. the QR barely moves and wait time increases with each reask Currently on 7 hrs. Tonight it will be 18 hours :D
Are we nearly there yet?

loooool

actually, this thing happened to me once, i was dying for a file to be completed, and there was that user who got it, i guess what he was doing is that he made the upload percentage from his side too small

so i sent him a message, asking politely if he could be a little bit generous, i was the ONLY user whom was downloading this file

to my surprise .... he just disappeared and never showed back again

i kept cursing him (between me and myself of course) wishing that his hard disk would fail

fortunately, few days back another user showed up and was generous (god bless him)

I was reading about the friends feature for the first time and the establish friend slot to move them to the front of the queue. I have a rare file hardly ever requested in my shared files so I thought to help distribute it by right clicking when someone in the queue was found waiting on it and make them a friend and establish a friend slot for them.

They showed up next in the uploads but disappeared (went off-line) within minutes of me doing this.
After three tries I abandoned this maneuver.

Rule #12: When after weeks and months of waiting together with some co-downloaders your rare file is finally complete, all the new sources will immediately unshare it and it goes back to a single source :flowers:
