yes, very big indeed. any major ISP is already supporting IPv6 and will shut down his IPv4 support tomorrow...

answer: no, not ready and no need to be, yet, either!

I have to say that "there is no need to do something" is such a stupid opinion towards a new technology.
When will ipv6 be considered as a technology "ready for everyone"?

Prematurely integrating support for a new technology simply because it exists, is also a stupid way to deal with new technologies. Why create work for yourself when there isn't a pressing need to do so?

Employing a technology which might not even make it to the market is stupid as well. Who knows how long the ISPs will chose to avoid IPv6 and by then they might consider introducing an even further developed version.

So as long as there isn't a considerable amount of ISPs supporting IPv6 it will probably not be implemented ;)

Are you sure windows and browsers are ready for Ipv6? Any major ISP is ready for routing ipv6, but there is a lot of software in ISP applications, involved in the change that is not ready yet.

Cheers :D

This is already listed quite a while in the FAF thread. Yes we will work on implementing IPv6 into Kad and the ED2K protocol (as it looks right now excluding server communication) and we would like it to be ready rather today than tomorrow because its usage seems inevitable. However unsurprsingly this needs a major rework of the whole protocol as well as eMule intern handlings (starting from IPFilters over UPnP too calculating IDs) which is some major work. Given the current state, it is fairly likely that its employment for endusers is still quite some years ahead and most likely even then IPv4 will be supported for quite some time via gateways.
We will most likely start to invest ressources in implementing it as soons as a employment is at least on the horizion, so that we can use the time untill then for other stuff as people tend to dislike new features which they don't see any use for :)

Hi everyone
Anyway...

IPv6 is expected to gradually replace IPv4, with the two coexisting for a number of years during a transition period.

I'm in the Cernet2 ( the third biggest network in China), this network supports ipv6.
I'm using ipv6 everyday,http/ftp/iptv/bittorrent/bbs.
Yes you can see that most of the other network protocals supports ipv6 now.
So can anyone tell me why emule tends to be more cautious?

FileZilla(a famous FTP client) holds the same opinion as the developer of emule and refuse to add ipv6 support to its software.
My decision is simply stop using it.
Maybe I should use bittorrent again.

Go right ahead. But it's not going to change the developers' opinion on when to implement IPv6.

Cernet2 is a university reasearch network as far as i know and not really a good example for the employment of IPv6 in general.

I have my doubts about this for the simple reason that most websites, bittorrent users, ftp servers and so on do not support IPv6 at all. Thats why it also wouldn't actually help you much if eMule would support IPv6: You couldnt reach the other 3 mio non-cernet2 users with IPv6 anyway, except with a NAT/Gateway (and if you use one you could just use IPv4 directly).

But of course if it makes you feel better you can use Bittorrent instead, even through i pretty much doubt that there is any IPv6 tracker.

Some Support,
The major factor of IPv6 success is the adoption rate.

If the applications "refuse" or wait to IPv6 be popular. when IPv6 will never be popular.

I can´t imagine a way to make KAD IPv6 compatible , without break the compatibility with the actual version.

You are the Last official developer, now you are very active, but the future is unknown, you may have Real life problems. So if you can´t work anymore in eMule, when the IPv6 start to grow, the eMule will not become a alternative.
Or some developers will port to IPv6, but everyone in a different way.

So i think that IS a the most important feature to be implemented NOW.

And more important, if the eMule implement the IPv6, it can create a discussion about the importance of IPv6 and how fragile is IPv4 now. And may accelerate the migration.

Last dev? More like the most active dev on the board. Last changelog shows at least 3 active coding devs iirc.

Well that would save us quite some work :P IPv6 will come soon enough but IPv4 will also stay long enough.

Actually i'm not.

Sorry but i'm not going to make decisions when to implement a feature based on "what would happen if a truck hits me tomorrow" but rather on "What features does eMule needs right now".

I dont think the changelog shows anything about which dev coded what anymore

This is a top secret subject. You do not want your brains to be "erased" after the revelation, do you? ;)
