Just throwing this out there to other people considering being a releaser on the content database. If you are a user who would like to become a releaser, have the resource and a little spare time to update something and would like to watch a download number grow over time - and possibly have creators thanking you for it as has happened to me, I thought I'd share a few ideas of what you could release on the database. There's literally a whole world of legit content out there that is not on that database. What is on there is only the tiniest of a fraction of what is eligable to be on there. I'm willing to bet there's tons of things out there that stands to be more popular then my Free Music release (which now clearly stands un the number to slot right now) Any registered user can help make that happen.

I did get in touch with 50 Foot Wave and they saw the release when it was at about 150,000 downloads and the response was, "Holy f*ck that just made my year. Thank you so much for making this happen!" (well, paraphrasing at least, I got the actual quote somewhere else if need be) This is suppose to be for those who know about eMule, know about ED2K, have some extra bandwidth, but have a reletively empty directory.

On with a few suggestions:

Revision 3 - Pixel Perfect - I use to have a release on the content database that was essentially a show about photoshopping. The show was rediculously popular. It climbed faster then TWiT (which is now in the top 20) That show was pulled unfortunately because at one point it went from a free vidcast to a for-profit vidcast (meaning it cost money to watch a show older then the current episide. I actually found this out first and had the show pulled because of this - as dissappointed as I was - but knew that a show on photoshopping was bound to bring success. Pixel Perfect has every opportunity to do what that old show could ever do on the content database and hope someone will eventually post this and see how well it replaces that old show. :) (while I do release Systm, The Broken, Diggnation, and CTRL+ALT+Chicken from Revision 3, everything else is up for grabs as well)

TWiTcasts - TWiT, FLOSS Weekly, Inside the Net, and Security Now may be already released on the content database, but that doesn't mean all the TWiTcasts are there. Shows like TWiM, TWiL, Windows Weekly, and the Daily GizWiz also have been running podcasts of their own and, to my knowledge, have yet to be added to the database. I'm sure there are other winners in there. IMO, everything from the TWiTcasts I've added have all been successful. :D

SectionZ - Do you love techno? Drum N' Bass? Trance? Dance? Ambient? DownTempo? Electronica? Jamendo isn't the only repository out there (though Jamendo IS highly recommended!) SectionZ offers thousands or even millions of CC licensed music tracks by artists (like me) I know rock is definitely on these places as well. You can find a lot of content on the CC website as well if you can't find what you are looking for.

Podcasting/Vidcasting - If you lived to be a thousand years old, you still woudn't be able to check out all the vidcasts/podcasts avaliable today. Indexing is already impossible when getting all the content put together in a single list. But hey, we all gotta start somewhere. Slyck has compiled a large directory of podcasts/Vidcasts/IPTV/etc. shows and a good majority isn't on the content database. I do, however, have a few supported shows, so be sure to run a search through the database if you plan on releasing anything just incase someone else already has that show covered (and up-to-date)

SourceForge - There's a lot of GPL licensed software on this site. eMule is on there, there's plenty of games on SourceForge. Some of the games have made their way to the database, but not very many. These are probably lower maintenance to keep up because updates don't happen weekly forever like some podcasts are, so maintaining software will likely be easier... just don't forget about the release though!

Let's cram the database full of content!!! :bounce: (and remember, it's about the legit content! :D )
