Hello,
I'm trying USS and I'm using the % method. In the lower right corner pf the screen
there a 3 numbers constantly changing, for example, 68.1, 727ms, 3865%.

What are those 3 numbers.? My current upload speed is 43 Kbytes p/s, close to my limit.

In the settings I've got ping tolerance percent 500.

How does it supposed to work?

Dave

Current upload limit, average ping response, and percentage of ping from lowest average.

If USS ever encounters a ping higher than the factor you set in the preferences it incrementally lowers the the upload limit until ping responses normalize below the threshold. You can also tweak the rate at which it does this as well. HTH.

Is it possible to get a better explaination than that.........its like trying to understand a cars transmission by the mechanic telling you the speed is determined by the factor of the numbers and letters on the gear shift knob.....:)

I understand what a PING is, I know what MS are......I get ping ms doing online speed tests. I know what an average is, and a %..........but I do not know what the "CORRECT" "DESIRED" or "RANGE" is for an acceptable ping for usable USS. I turned on USS, and the % swings from the multi hundreds to the multi thousands.....havent the slightest clue what calculations and formula are being displayed. Additionally, my going up and down slowness is listed as "1000"......somethings........cant make an edjucated guess on ratios when the numbers are not only valued in various systems, but also in strange ambiguous settings. :(

I will try to guess....I set my USS to use 500%...am assuming this means the "ping tolerance", as determined by taking the ms readout in the lower right corner, multiplying it by 5 sets up the "range" or zone if you will (is ms bandwidth spread an actual term?), that when exeeded by the numerical capping value formula (the damn 1000's) either slower or faster, will result in USS making the determinations as to if the connections at that precise moment are being clogged (long ms values) or if they are working freely. I am also assuming, that USS uses this system not to determin the FASTEST upload or MAXIMUM upload speed, but to continuously try to keep the upload capacity at a point where its fast enough, but not so fast as to allow emule to start a nuclear connection chain reaction the moment the ping ms gets low.

Do I understand it at all....I got all F's in math. If I do have a rudimentary understanding, would my next step be to watch the ms readout for a while, to determin what it is with emule running normally, not starting new files etc, then do the math starting with that ms value and apply the formula according to the math using the numbers I enter into the extended tab? Am I making sense?

Oh yeah, when I do online speed tests, my normal ping to a local speed test server is 40 something, with emule hauling ass (USS off, max UL going on), its like up to 300ms. Can you reccomend some test setting to apply using those known ms figures?

thank you anyone

Just figured it out...I think. I set ping tolerance to 200%, meaning it will only allow TWICE the lowest ping before throttling back on the UL slightly using my UL/DL slowness settings of 500? I set average to 3.......set my UL limit in connections to 150KB/s, 25KB/s under my T1's maximum, and now when I browse the internet, or any of the 60 other people wo do also, I can see the emule screen ping time go up a little, and it throttles back until its in the 20-30ms range. Web pages now load super fast, and my UL remains at 150KB/s all night, and only goes down a bit during the day when people start using the T1, I love USS....I use to get complaints all the time i was jamming the upload causing web browsers to have very long wait times for pages to get sent.

My % displayed, goes from about 75%-200% normally. I am guessing the lower the % stays stable, the better? I was thinking of playing with ping tolerange settings of 150% tolerance, or 40ms/ms settings, and raising my UL limit to the max of the T1.

Am I learning anything? I must say, my connections I now set to 100, and since usng USS, my connections went from going up and down like crazy at 150 setting, and now is a nice smooth line, connections are handled much better for me behind a NAT.
