please excuse total beginner ignorance but do I put these files in the emule folder or the vlc folder ? (it would make me feel better if you laughed before entering a reply as laughing during or after reply usually results in shaky hands and bad spelling) :woot:

Sometimes it helps if you look at the files you downloaded from page 1 of this thread. Try that now. One of the files will have a name that practically begs you to READ it. Then you'll see yourself as the silly goose you truly are!

Well DICK, I looked at it, read it 3times, decided it was more than my capabilities could handle and seeing as I don't seem to be having any problems with vlc, I decided to leave well enough alone. Thanx for your kindly help and advice, DICK.

The non-automated method to inspect a part file is to copy the part file to a different location on the hard drive, change the file's extension to whatever the file is (eg: filname.avi), and drop it into VLC.

You can also use Preview within eMule. Right click on file, and if eMule has the necessary data to preview, it will let you do so. VLC is good for this function also.

Hello. What do you think about my suggestion?

A simple request: I noticed VLC asks to rebuild the index of some partially downloded video. Can you disable this request adding a switch?

In VLC Preferences, go to "Input / Codecs" -> Demuxers -> AVI, and choose "Never fix" for "Force index creation".

It's not a good solution IMHO, because if the file is not a partial downloaded file, it's good to fix index problems.

VLC 0.8.6d adds just a small security fix. There hasn't been any changes in the access module, and you can use the 0.8.6c partfile plugin DLL with 0.8.6d without problem.

VLC media player 0.8.6f release
2008-04-02

We are pleased to announce the release of VLC media player 0.8.6f.
This is a bugfix release. VLC media player 0.8.6e and earlier versions suffer from security vulnerabilities in the Subtitle demuxer, Real RTSP demuxer, MP4 demuxer and Cinepak codec.
This release also includes improved video output on multi-screen setups running Mac OS X and compatibility with Windows 9x/ME has been restored.
We strongly recommend all users to update to this new version.

Can I propose to make a version numbering for the plugin different by VLC one? Or every time people believe plugin is not compatible with latest VLC versions (I hope I've answered you, Dumble ^___^)

ok, but i read this here: " http://www.emule-pro...file_readme.htm ":

Quote

IMPORTANT NOTE: After installing the eMule part file access plugin or after installing a new version of VLC you should always manually check if the version of the eMule part file access plugin matches the version of VLC. This is because VLC does not support plugins which were developed for a different version of VLC than the installed one. This means, if you are using e.g. VLC v0.6.1 you can not use an eMule part file access plugin which was developed for e,g. VLC v0.6.2 and vice versa. This means further, the version of VLC does always have to match the version of the eMule part file access plugin. There is no way to check this automatically, therefore you have to manually open the VLC Settings dialog (Settings/Preferences/Plugins/access) and check whether there is an access_partfile module available. If not, your version of VLC does not match the version of the eMule part file access module. Either upgrade the VLC or the eMule part file access module.

This is misleading. If there's an upgrade of a program, it doesn't mean them extensions are always and all incompatible. It depends from the changes made to the main program.

I think it's better to advert people to check periodically the latest version at the official site. An Atom feed could be also a good update signaller.

Now that there is some time i'm looking into porting it to VLC 1.0.x. Its already compiling on VS which was probably the most frustrating part of it ;) If nothing is too much broken in the API there should be a testversion/release soon.
