If you see mistakes or untranslated part of this language on the homepage.. You can comment here.

In addition, the current translation for this language is attached as a zip here... If you want to help us, you can download that zip.. Do your changes and upload it back to this thread for someone to check it out and update the homepage.

It may take a little time for someone check our your changes.. So be patient.. But at least this way any translations will not get lost in someones eMail..

24/09/2004: update_24092004_contact.zip added for translating

Sugestions

Hoe vaak wordt eMule gepdatet?
eMule wordt niet z vaak gepdatet; op dit moment verschijnt er rond de n drie weken een nieuwe versie, maar pin ons hier vooral niet op vast. :)

gepdatet = geupdate
-Kan je beter vermijden door ;Hoe vaak verschijnt er een nieuwe versie van eMule? o.i.d.

Consider skipping; eMule wordt niet z vaak gepdatet.
-is samen met om de 1 a 3 weken dubel op en geupdate loopt niet zo lekker.

verschijnt er rond = verschijnt er om
-maar pin ons hier vooral niet op vast = maar we kunnen niks beloven

So overall it would lead to

Sorry for being blunt...

but the Dutch translation of the eMule website is... well

A 6 year old child would probably translate it better...

The sentence structure and grammar is poor: for example:
the english site:

Quote

At dawn of May 13th 2002 a guy called Merkur was

the dutch site:

Quote

de avond van 13 mei 2002 was een jongen, genaamd Merkur

The word "guy" can be seen as "person". The dutch translation on the website is "boy". So you get the following sentence:

On the evening of May 13th 2002, a boy called Merkur was...

Each time I open this site I see this... And there are enough other things I can point out. Anyway, if you need some help on this, I'd be happy to help.

Guess who's jumping in, just after introducing myself on the main translating topic.
Hi Orion and Ikke.. guess you know my nickname by now, I started to do the help/faq section. Got a bunch of pages online which I expect can carry your approval. If not, or when You two have Dutch screenies to contribute, drop me a line okay?
p.s. - the front page can wait.. let's consider it a finishing touch after the whole faq and lexicon is online. Mr. Bean deserves to see his baby grown into a BIG (Dutch) boy :)
status 28/7/2004:24 pages

p.s. I tend to keep strictly to the latest language file, and keep the use of terms as plain and clear as possible. For instance: sticking to Ontvangst/Ontvangsten.. instead of Downloads, which has 2 advantages: It's clear to both young and old, newbie and experienced user as well as people speaking Dutch/Belgian dialect, whereas the chance of being interpreted as if emule is just a Download program is avoided. Hence boring can be cool.
p.p.s. 1 point of doubt on my side: Optie Snel Starten was originally Safe Start, but don't show in my Mod, nor in the chm file.. kindly look into it.. didn't have time to ask around.

I'll read it through, seems pretty good at first glance, you did use some english words though (which are also used in the Netherlands)... Shouldnt "settings en snelheid" be "instellingen en snelheid"??? Besides those small things its a pretty good translation, clear, sentences run smootly etc.

But every Dutch person gets to see the frontpage of the eMule website... It doesn't leave a good impression. Hmm... looks kinda difficult... Translation is the easy part but the messing around with the layout of the files is not my thing... d'oh!

Points noted.. and taken. Heh; it's allways the layout that bugs the user and not the editor... mind You: translating is never easy (let alone communicating to the masses). 2nd half of the batch is ready for editing here; nearly all cylinders firing up. Our baby will be roughly online before fall ;)

Status 31/8/04: help/faq pages translated and online for your scrutiny. Hope You'll like to chew on them. I'll mention my points of doubt here in this message.

Some new comments:
'Op de avond van 13 mei 2002 was een jongen, genaamd Merkur, teleurgesteld in het originele eDonkey2000 programma en vond hij dat hij het beter kon maken, dus deed hij dat.'
That sentence just doesn't read well, the English 'so he did' is translated literally while it is seldomly used in Dutch.
My advised version:
'Op de avond van de 13e mei in het jaar 2002 was er een jongen, Merkur genaamd, die teleurgesteld was in het originele eDonkey2000 programma. Hij vond dat hij een beter alternatief kon maken waarna hij de daad bij het woord voegde'.

'Hun doel was het programma daar te verbeteren waar eDonkey bekend om stond'
This just means 'their goal was to improve the programme on the points where eDonkey was known of'.... What does that mean
My version
'Hun doel was het programma zo te verbeteren om het zijn functionaliteit terug te geven waar het vroeger zo populair door was'

'Wat betekend eMule?'
Very, very, very childish grammar, you normally learn at primary school that 'betekent' should be written here. :angelnot:

'Het programma gebruikt diverse netwerken om n groot en betrouwbaar netwerk te maken. (ED2K, Source Exchange, Kad)
Kad zit nog in de testfase, maar eMule v0.42 kan al worden gebruikt om ook met Kad te verbinden.'
Source Exchange is not a network but an extra form of p2p communication. 'onderlinge uitwisseling' is a correct translation. Of course Kad should be named Kademlia and v0.42 should be updated to v0.44.

'eMule's Wachtrij- en Credit-systeem zorgt ervoor dat iedereen het bestand krijgt die hij wilt, maar dat men daardoor ook andere bestanden deelt, zodat er genoeg aanbod blijft van n bepaalde download.'
'hij wilt' is also childish, should be 'hij wil'. 'n' should be 'n'.

'eMule is geheel gratis en ook geheel vrij van adware, spyware, enz. We doen dit voor het plezier en de ervaring, niet voor het geld!'
This second sentence implies that eMule is made free of charge and free of adware/spyware for fun and experience and not for money :D. I think that the writer means that the eMule-project is there for fun and experience, so the last sentence should be 'eMule is ontwikkeld om plezier aan te beleven en ervaring aan op te doen en niet om geld mee te verdienen'.

'eMule heeft ook een webservice en webserver aan boord zodat je je overdrachten vanop het internet kunt beheren.'
'vanop' is not Dutch, maybe Russian or something, the correct preposition is 'vanaf'.

'Je kan categorieen maken zodat je elk bestand gecategoriseerd kunt downloaden.'
Small detail: categorieen is written as categorien.

The rest is ok.

No, "a guy" cannot be translated as "jongen"(boy). The rest looks nice... Probably best that the whole front page is to be re-translated from english.

Good day,

I would like to address the setup of the Dutch pages instead of going into translation issues.
Frankly, the setup in the Download section is a mess.

I am very often refering Dutch friends to the Emule pages and they can't even find the install file!
After a few attempts they give up.... and if I don't dive in to send them Emule, most are going BT.

For starters, links are showing wrong highlighted text.
When hovering over a link, the lines of text above that link are being highlighted.
So, when hovering over the second link, the description of the first link is highlighted.
When hovering over the third link, the description of the second link is highlighted.
So, this also means that when you click the description of the second link, you are actually clicking the third link.
This is absolutely confusing and frankly a very messy job.
The descriptions should not be highlighted in the first place.

The next big problem occurs on clicking the first link.
(Most folks go for the first link including all language and help files).
Instead of being redirected to sourceforge to download the file, Dutch users are redirected to this page:
http://content.emule...view.php?pid=35
Now, correct me if i'm wrong but that is not where they should be!

That page offers no files to download except for Ed2k links, which obviously don't work if you don't have emule installed.
People who end up here get totally lost.

The next two links are correct in the fact that they do lead to Sourceforge.
However those links deal with wrongly highlighted text (as described),
so most users aren't sure that what they click is what they need.

I find this situation very disturbing.
It basically prevents all the non-persistant people in an entire country from using the ed2k network.
And those are the ones you specifically want.. The ones that turn on the Mule, go to their jobs and/or families
and let it run for ever and ever.
I see a lot of people getting lost, getting annoyed and not willing to give it another shot.
They mostly end up using another well known p2p program.

Please, PLEASE, correct this situation as soon as possible.
Greetings,
Bushdoctor.

Only got access to the Help, and later the lexicon section in the beginning (which I'm planning to pick up again, since no one else edits it). Promise you this.. will ask for login/access to the content page and news, too okay?
thx for the heads up

Is somebody doing something with the proposed corrections, because I still see the same mistakes as a year ago? Do you want us to send further translations/corrections?

No.. Not only didn't I receive hardly any sensible info by mail when I was translating, nor did I get any cooperation from the project team.

189 downloads.. no additions to my translation (the first complete Dutch there was), nor community support on the implementation, or the other Dutch side projects .. we rallied our ass off, only to see this network dwindling to a sorry excuse of a "support" network, no matter what I and some bigger users than me suggested as quick links to localized and on topic tech info.. I saw the veterans of p2p being thrown out one by one with the help of the socalled IRC opers on top of that whithout realising it.. I vaguely remember seeing that before, on a network that has died.

I hereby step down as translator, and deny any services to this FAQ, or any other contribution for emuleproject.net or any other info I willingly or unwillingly contribute, as it in my opinion does not longer represents its users, nor cannot/will not evolve into something community driven basis anymore. As far as I can see, this network is being totally ruined by those who cannot control (who tend to destroy what they crave, and cannot do themselves), and seem to finish off what others *You know who* started.

Some while ago, I humbly asked an alleged friend if my name would not better be striken from the faq's page ends.. now I demand it. I'm sure I realised too late that the community was bleeding knowledge, experience and free exchange of information, but I was too busy filling gaps and too blind to see that others would rather usurp their status instead of making most of what they have been granted by "us all". Furthermore, the IRC management failed to show competence in keeping alive communication lines (I have 1 very stark example up my sleeve.. what would happen if I first google for filesharing laws, then pressurize some panicked network opers with the "new" IRC/Network rules to have local irc opers killed for being "inactive" who kept their mouth shut since shit hit the fan).
Oh! come on.. Since me and many of my mates got bored reading lines of shit instead of users wishes, and our motivation and/or health reoccurringly seamed to leave us, I'm yearning for known and better horizons.. and this FAQ or the "official" IRC channels are not in it anymore.

Lest I forget.. when I was standing on the shoulders of giants and was learning to walk, this network started off as opensource, an alleged stronghold of p2p.. not for yapping cronies, parasites and/or panic driven politics as far I can recall.
Unless a more elegant admission rule for candidate opers will be introduced, like for instance dragging them off blindfolded to a nearby park, drugged or under a pretext and then put up a soapbox to see if he/she will be stoned, arrested or carried off by medical personnel, we are fucked!
I could quote from a song, but You wouldn't know anyhow, as the current IRC channel opers do not want You to mention it as they are downloading it themselves, and they are not sharing it.
This post has been edited several times, as I still don't comprehend the minds of idiots.. my mistake, sorry.

GOODBYE
