Thanks. I tried 5 different recovery programs and can't find the .met file I need. It has taken many hours and I got nowhere. I don't know what else I can do. It's really frustrating. Since Emule has all my statistics (1.92TB, over 16,000 files) I would think there must be some way to get the information.

It should be possible only if you have an old backup of your files.
However, try this: 2th post of Looking For A Tool To Read Known.met And Known2_64.met (click).
It explains how to check what you have downloaded: if you see your "already downloaded files", maybe it will be sufficient to tick the two remember options in options files.
If "known" column (in the collection dialog) shows nothing, i think you can't do nothing.
INCONCEIVABLE! - You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means.

Maybe you should have considered doing backups.

Rehashing the files you still have will (kind of) recreate part of your download history.

Would it be enough to just back up the known.met and canceled.met files, or is there a better way to back up?

Also, is it possibly a .dat file and not .met that I need?

It should be sufficient to have a copy of these files: clients.met, criptkey.dat, preferences.dat, known.met, known2_64.met, cancelled.met, searchspam.met
But it seems that they occupy about 95% of the entire config folder, so you can save the entire config folder once a month, for example.

I'll do that. Thanks for your help.

In the beginning of this thread, AC_SearchStrings.dat file is mentioned. I wonder if that is what I need. I don't even have it. Don't know what happened to it or how to find or get it back, if it's even possible. Any ideas?

From Help&Support,General Information,Files Used (click):

Quote

AC_SearchStrings.dat
Each search string that has been used is recorded and an auto-completing is offered if a new search matches previous ones.

From Help&Support,Preferences,Display (click)

Quote

Remember open searches between restarts
When you exit eMule, it will remember your open search tabs (including any changes you may have made to the results) and restore them on the next start if this option is enabled.

Auto completion (History function)
The history saves all user entries from the search, Kademlia bootstrap IP, server update URL and IP filter update URL fields and offers to complete the entry if it finds something suitable in the saved entries.

The first option enables the creation/saving of the StoredSearches.met, the second does the same for AC_SearchStrings.dat
