The firewall setting is for MAC address control for around 13 pcs including my own pc. I sure can get to the net but emule fails to connect giving for example this message:
9/12/2005 8:40:03 AM: Connection attempt to "Razorback 2.5" (64.34.161.178:5661 ) timed out

I have try the option given for SMC router in the help file for Virtual Server and Special Application settings but with the same message above.

truly grateful if anyone could provide whatever assistance

Regards

PS
I hope this is the right place for this post as I am a newbie!

Thanks for your help. I have referred to the page you gave me. Still it is failing.

I think I need to provide more details:

OS: WinXP Pro service pack 2 with 256MB ram

emule version: 0.46c

Note, things were ok prior to installation the SMC7004WFW router. This setup was required because at work there are around 40 odd pcs on the network and the boss needed better control over the terminal that can access the Net due to bandwidth.
Below is the error details:
9/12/2005 12:50:30 PM: Connecting to Very big file database (207.44.186.79:367)...
9/12/2005 12:50:40 PM: Connected to Very big file database (207.44.186.79:367), sending login request
9/12/2005 12:50:56 PM: Connection attempt to "Very big file database" (207.44.186.79:367 ) timed out
9/12/2005 12:50:56 PM: Failed to connect to all servers listed. Making another pass.
9/12/2005 12:50:56 PM: Automatic connection to server will retry in 30 seconds

Follow the instructions here.

Also setup a Static IP and remove from DHCP range if you have not already. Obviously in such a large network there is a very good chance of IP changing through DHCP.

Make sure you have opened the ports in any software firewalls, although if it worked before the router then it seems likely it is simply a port forwarding problem.

Manually connect to Razorback2 or Donkeyservers to check Id.

Thanks Niclights for your help. Man, I have tried doing what you've explain but with no improvement.

I know the router wan port is connected to a wireless Motorola Canopy device and all system go...

... except emule now.

I am uncertain whether there must be further routing at the ISP end of the canopy system. ie. Do you get a Public or Private IP on the WAN side of the canopy device? This is beyond my knowledge.

thanks for trying to help, NICLIGHTS!!

the technician did disable something on the Motorola Canopy to allow the router to take over the routing/NAT job as otherwise the router would not connect to the device. what they did I donot know as this was done from the ISP's side as they can directly communicate and configure the Canopy device. Thus they donot need to come onsite.

We do not have access right to the device. Unfortunate. Well, they have the reasons!!!

The Wan IP address, the ISP gave us a class B private address! and including the normal DNS address (public IPs).

regards
