I was using .46b just fine until I got a prompt in emule's search engine to upgrade(I couldnt search for jack shit because of the prompt in the search field). After installing, I check my stastistics to find that 2 years worth of upload/download data is gone, and my speed is 2kb download and 80kb upload, whereas before it was on average, 100 kb down and 80 kb up. Why force us to upgrade when this C version is actually worse than it's predecessors?

It is not search engine/Emule that is asking you to upgrade, but the connected server. AFAIK it is only the Razorback servers (2.0 & 2.1) that ask for this. When you performed the search presumably you were no longer connected to RB2 (even if it said it was - happens occasionally) & therefore your client attempted to re-connect & you then received the error msg at the bottom relayed from Servers/Log.

The requirement is purely a server related issue. As I understand it 0.46a and later now specify the size of file they are requesting which previous clients did not. I would guess enforcing the use of this simply helps getting genuine/uncorrupt files. I'm not sure why you were asked to upgrade as a 0.46b user.

As for your problem, there's nothing wrong with latest version but you must have done something wrong in your installation. You appear to have lost your config files. Normally it would just install over the top of your old Emule keeping config files in-tact. Perhaps you have installed to a separate directory? In this case just replace the new config files with your old ones or replace the old Emule.exe with the new one.

Your DL problems are presumably because settings have changed - UL Limit/connection settings/Ports etc. These would be recovered using method above. If this is not possible then it shouldn't be such a big deal. Most important are Ports & opening/forwarding - check for High-Id when connected to Razorback2.0 or Donkeyservers. Also make sure UL Limit is set correctly (approx 75% upload bandwidth)

@slayerkorn: Further to the above it has now been confirmed that Razorback servers are indeed asking for 0.46a and above. If your client is being rejected then it is not a genuine 0.46b and you are running a mod.

I wonder when we will be hearing something from the developers (thanks guy below me) explaining what is happening. The delay + silence combined sure leads to a load of speculation. For my part, I wonder if the legal problems from edonkey are in any way relevant to what is happening? In any case the latest version works fine and I am thankful for that. As the phrase goes, if it ain't broke... would be nice to see more serverless development and security features like encryption though.

Cheers!

Don't you mean devs? AFAIK, none of the current forum moderators actively code for the official eMule builds and, therefore, can't say anything definitively about the progress of the upcoming version. I can say this, however, that one of the major features from the FAF thread is heavily being looked into as we speak (but then again, you already knew that, right? :P)

@niclights: and Donkeyserver#1 , and more to follow.

and one still get's connected to those severs, it's only the search, that doesn't work.

and for those : "when new version?" here is a quote from a german-forum topic:

Es kommen weiter Versionen, keine Sorge - nur nicht mehr im so schnellen Rythmus wie früher.
