My plan is to get the IP ranges of the Chinese, Koreans, (asians), maybe the Germans, and swap especially dodgy popular files with them. It's UK and USA where all the traps lie. My guess is that USA has about half the IP range, and it would be difficult to filter them out. Easier just to leave them out in the first place.

And where are you from? I hope you are from USA, and when everyone else in the world are finally doing the same as you, you will not even be able to ping longer than to the nearest router.

Are you sure that you are not anti-P2P yourself? :hammer2:

Just like to remind you, if you know any IP ranges (dial-in, PPP, DSL...) which are mistakenly blocked in the existing ipfilter / guarding lists. Please post them in the forum at http://www2.openmedi...ewtopic.php?t=9 to be included in the next update scheduled for this weekend.

The current whitelist is available at http://www2.openmedi...o:8080/p27.html

Thanks!
Mac

Has there been some kind of offensive from the RIAA in the last few weeks, or why is the number of blocked ip-ranges increasing steadily? even with ISPs' ip-ranges taken out?

After a one week break caused by a faulty harddisk in RAID0 :furious: new filterlists are available. I hope I've got all my lists puzzled together again properly :worthy:

There was a discussion about that before in the mldonkey boards and the decision was made not to offer a ed2k download for obvious reasons. Sorry if this causes a little bit of inconvenience. Nevertheless there are some scripts available at http://openmedia.info for an automatic update of the filterlists (cron job).

Cheers,
Mac

First i downloaded "http://www.openmedia.info/downloads/ipfilter_full.dat.zip",
unpacked it, renamed ipfilter_full.dat to ipfilter.dat and included in my "\emule"
and "\emule\config" directory....

Then i selected emule/preferences/security and pushed the Reload button...

Then 80%-90% of the people in my queue disappears....

Then i edit ipconfig.dat and remove all but the first line...

Then i selected emule/preferences/security and pushed the Reload button...

Then the number of people in my queue increases tenfold...

(ipfilter_full.dat.zip = 1167936 bytes)

Well, why you bother than with a filter list at all? It's up to you to decide if you want to add a little bit of security or just open the door to everyone...

Mac

I usually read and don't offer an opinion, but lately I have noticed MANY servers that are bogus/dead when connecting to them, yet they appear to have 30-100k users. Is it possible for your ipfilter to filter out the server ips too? and are they added into your full list ipfilter yet? Right now it says on ed2k servers, there are 3.8 million people, while kad has 1.3 million. Yet, it says there are 302.6 million files on ed2k while 391.1 million on kad! what bogus numbers! thanks

I'm starting to see where this is going:

Quote

000.000.000.000 - 255.255.255.255 , 000 , Just being cautious

One line! That's 0,001% of ipfilter_full.dat (nov. 21. 2004) and guaranteed to be more secure.

Clearly NO. This is not the task of the filter lists. If you don't like certain servers, simply modify your server list. There were already some "helpful" guys in the past who "filtered" several ranges supposed to be "bogus" and doing so thousand of legitimate users were blocked.
