Read the quick help and guides in the support section. There is one about slow eMule. Search the forum for similar threads, has been covered god knows how many times.

Finally as birk says configure it properly.

One thing worked for me:

I had default settings of download capacity (Preferences/Connection) 96 kB/s and upload capacity 16 kB/s. Then I found that the higher *upload* capacity is the better downloading goes. Now I set upload capacity as 96 kB/s.
Try this, if you haven't tried before. It won't make you happy, but it will make you feel a couple of times better. :D

To people who give advices like "read the manual"... please, there can be many reasons why reading those FAQs gives nothing but headache. One reason is that people who write those FAQs usually know everything already and they just cannot see the problems of others the same way the others see them. That's why math books, for example, are never easy to read.

Well, and besides, some of us (like my humble self) speak pretty funny languages, and reading anything lenghty and overloaded with all those queer technical terms (let alone technical slang) in English is not that easy.

Very funny, Magic_Circus! :-1:

This way you're killing your download, especially with ADSL.

I don't know much about ADSL or whatever. Words like that scare me.

I know one thing: when I did that (don't ask me what my connection is or any other details - well, some kind of cable) I found that my download rate basically correlated (i'm not sure I'm speaking English now) with the upload rate. The higher I set upload the better was download. I'm talking about upper limits, since of course the speed can go up and down, but I never had downloading speed like 50 kB/s before, now I have it, and even more sometimes. And I never could download from so many (like 8 or even 10) sources at the same time.

And besides, if it doesn't work for you, you can easily change things back any time, right?

He said "capacity" not "limit". Yes, the capcities need to be set high, because they are the limit for the "unlimited" setting, not to mention they limit the setting bar when limited. Set them to your actual line capcity, or slightly above. This should work best.

1. take a speed test at broadbandreports
2. set upload limit to 80% of your upload capacity
3. follow the wizard's settings
4. disable xp firewall. use kerio or sygate for a firewall.

Yes, you're right, but this doesn't make any sense at all, at least when 96/16 are the real capacities, you can't gain download speed by this.

Who said they were real? They were default capacities. I haven't yet checked out what are the real ones. I guess, judging from what really hapens, it must be about 80-85 both upload and download. In my case.

Sorry for expecting real values from you when giving hints about finding working parameters. :-k

oops, guys
I changed to 96 BOTH upload capacity and upload limit.

I guess, the whole argument between us is just besause I didn't know (and still don't know) my real limit, but evidently it was not 16 kB/s. And I just found it out accidentally - changing numbers.

Well so far I noted some ways to improve download.

- Ensure you have High ID.
- Enable Kadmelia (Kad).
- Promote uploads of files with similar content as the one you want to download by giving them High priority in the Shared Files List.
- Download more than one file at once, but in different categories.
- Have patience as you generaly wouldn't get full speed from a client until you uploaded to it. (Credit systems and trading Mod's a little bit newbie unfriendly)
eMule v0.50a [NetF WARP v0.3a]
- Compiled for 32 and 64 bit Windows versions
- Optimized for fast (100Mbit/s) Internet connections
- Faster file completion via Dynamic Block Requests and dropping of stalling sources
- Faster searching via KAD with equal or reduced overhead
- Less GUI lockups through multi-threaded disk IO operations
- VIP "Payback" queue
- Fakealyzer (helps you chosing the right files)
- Quality Of Service to keep eMule from disturbing VoIP and other important applications (Vista/7/8 only!)

Then speaking of grammar and semantics.....

Not seeing the problem with the sentence you quoted. It takes a bit of re-reading to get, but it's grammarically correct.
