General

A4AF means nothing else than: Asked For Another File
You can see this notification if you're trying to download two files from the same user. It's not possible to get these two files at the same time from this user because eMule will queue for only one file. That's why A4AF exists.

For example: Your waiting for the file A in the queue of a user but also want to download file B from the same user.

When you double click on file A in the transfer window a list appears. This list shows all sources for file A. Sometimes one of these sources has no queue rank but shows instead the message A4AF. This means you already requested from the same user file B in addition to A. If you don't change anything about that eMule will complete file B and then the source will be switched to file A.

eMule gives gives you the opportunity to influence these A4AF sources in one way only. You can right click on a download and choose a different download priority because eMule assigns sources for different downloads with the same source by this priority.

Thank you very much for this explanation. I have looked before to try to find out what it was and did not find anything. It is so very clear now and did not imagine before just how simple of an every day thing A4AF was. Thank you very much for this description.

I hope this description is included in all help files and FAQ's to confuse even less people about this.

Does this option need to be enabled somewhere? If so, How??????

PS.... probably just my brain missing something, wjether it bw to do with the program or within my skull i am not sure

In the preferences, under extended settings tab, you need to check the box for: show more controls (advanced mode controls) in order to be able to use AFAF.

This was basically the only thing Skyw4lker didnt mention about AFAF. Great description though!!

In new emule versions 'Swap all sources to this file now' is no longer available.
Does somebody know why this happened ?
It was extremly useful for files with only a few sources.

It seems that only "Automatically Swap All (A4AF) Sources To This File" is still supported by the official client. I guess the other options could be abused by users and that's why they've been removed.

If yes I will update the guide to the new system :)

Download prio now controls a4af decisions, so the first post needs to be updated slightly.
