hy, i need help:
i have some movies (-.mpg / -.avi ...) to be burned not only to use on regular pc, but as well to be used for a external DVD-player.
how do i burn those files (sometimes two of them) , so a usual player will show the movies?
any short advice on wich software and how to start would be nice, also some experiences or tipps,

thank you very much ......... miles

You need to convert movies to vcd or svcd format to make movies for on cd-r's that will play on your dvd player. (unless you happen to own one with a divx decoder, i wish i did :) )

Run a websearch at http://www.google.com for a vcd tutorial.

Or try going to http://www.doom9.org or http://www.divx-digest.com and browsing around.

It is a lot of work to transcode movies

:P :D

nero express is great for if you have music videos or other short files like that, and you want to make a vcd. or for making vcd's of some movies that are in .mpeg format.

but if you've got the typical 700+ mb divx avi movie nero express is not going to help you much other than cd burning. you'll have to do the transcoding yourself.
a good dvd rip divx avi can translate into a 4 to 8 svcd set (this is the part that gives me headaches) . How to make a nice 2 svcd set from a dvd rip divx? Go to the tutorials. (I've never attempted that one myself) *grin*

you can save yourself some trouble by downloading movies that are already in vcd format.

(anyone who's burned more than a couple of dozen vcds want to elaborate?)

Personally I use Roxio Easy CD and DVD Creator as it does it all for me, there are very few file types it can't deal with and they are the same as the ones Nero can't. It creates VCD's, SVCDs and DVDs. I have tried and don't like Nero and as you can see most recommend Nero. The software is a matter of taste.

Are you using a CD writer or DVD writer?

actually, i use a dvd-burner, but i am very dissapointed by using nero vision express, as it took me hours of trying to burn a svcd (allready in that format) - making a nice background, some menues and so on, and at burn-process, it left me with a fault, and didn`t do it`s job. so did nero and easy cd-dvd creator ... what else can i do - i need to burn that svcd to a dvd - help
