Okay, finally have regained stability. When Emule freezes, some of the files (.met and temp), can become corrupted due to abnormal shut down of the computer.

When Emule tries to read these corrupted files it can get stuck, I guess, via infinite loops and other errors.

Windows XP naturally ran a checkdisk function on startup which may be exactly the same one as can be found next to the defragment option (via right clicking on the c drive icon). It fixed many errors in the downloads and since then Emule has been fine.

Somebody did mention that they got amazing speeds when they first connected. This happened to me, I am not sure but this may have caused a buffer overflow problem which initially corrupted the files, or whether this was just the most common problem of Antivirus/Firewall interference.

I think to know the problem and so the solution!!!
Seems stupid but I solve the problem of crashing Emule (NDis.sys problem and Blue screen display) removing "some" files from my Emule/logs/ directory!!!
In fact I had more than 1GB of old log files...
Bye!

Greetings Emuler's, Not exactly sure what the new issus is with running this software and my XP(SP2) computer intermittently rebooting? I have made NO changes to my system, software/hardware-wise, and this issue started out of the blue.

What I did learn was it's in the KAD servers and after logging in, click KAD button in menu and push DISCONNECT button. You can still search for files and download for other members. Keep cheching back for a permenant fix but this has worked for me without incident for the past couple days.

Hi,

if you are experiencing system crahes (blue screen of death, reboot) with Windows XP or Windows 2000 while running eMule, please do the following:

-remove all firewall software from the computer, or disable them. (Norton Internet Security, Zone Alarm etc.)

-turn off "live/realtime/auto-protect" AntiVirus scanners

-uninstall any proxy software you might be using, especially Pasakche, which is incompatible with edonkey clients

If all those don't help:

-download and install the latest drivers for your network card or (USB) modem.
-do not overclock any of your system components

If that fails, too, please understand this:

eMule itself can not make Windows XP/2000 crash. Ever.

eMule is a high level application that is terminated by the operating system if it causes an error.

Only low level drivers (network card, virus scanner, firewall etc) can crash WIndows XP/2000 to BlueScreen-Reboot.

Even if the problem only occurs when you run eMule, there is nothing we can do about it. Something is not right with your setup. Sorry :)

For those users experimenting blue screen and instant reboot of computer while running emule on windows xp:
In my case the problem is related with a wireless conection to a router, these "screenshots" only happen when the encryption method WPA is activated. Ive just changed to WEP (said to be very poor security, but... ) and the screenshots disappeared.
i hope this will help to solve the problem for (at least some of) you. if it works for you, please let it know, and distribute the information, thx.

I know this is an old thread but I've been trying for 5 months to solve a similar problem: USB wireless freezing the computer when using eMule (various versions, latest 0.49a). None of the standard suggestions like adjusting options worked, believe me I tried everything.

I finally fixed it by turning on Proxy in eMule for TCP connections and running the Antinat free proxy program on the computer with the USB wireless (D-Link device with Atheros chipset). In my case eMule runs on a different machine but this might help even with everything running on the same machine. Antinat seems to clean up eMule's network behaviour. The connections between eMule and Antinat over port 1080 should cause no problem since they don't go over the problem network.

I'm still able to use Kad because UDP traffic goes the usual way not through the proxy, and doesn't bring down my wireless.
Good luck all,
Georg

This is not a matter of belief.
Who can tell what exactly you've tried and what were your settings.
You should have read sticky topics and post configuration details.

From what you posted I would think that your networking equipment could not handle amount of UDP traffic created by eMule.
That would have little relevance to OS crash topic.

Emule seems to be "crashing" now, but only when I also have Firefox loaded. Technically, its not crashing, but it seems practically unable to clear the following error message. It takes several minutes to clear out the seemingly infinite quantity of error message windows which inform me either of:

"A required resource was "
"A required resource was unavailable."

depending on the font size and what fits into the window which pops up. Eventually, I can get to a point where I am able to click the X to close out the application. This seems to have begun sometime yesterday. Not sure what I did, if anything, to cause this to happen. Does anybody recognize these symptoms as having been reported before, or what to do about them? I already tried reinstalling emule, though I did not uninstall prior to reinstalling. I suppose I could try that too....any other thoughts or ideas?

Windows 2000, all current updates installed
connecting to a wireless network via Netgear WG111v2 wireless USB adapter

[edit] I just experienced a similar problem with Internet Explorer while NOT running emule, so it is possible this is not directly an emule related problem but an Internet Explorer problem. So perhaps I should ask this question: Does emule utilize Internet Explorer for any of its functionality?

[second edit] I did a scandisk as suggested by one of the topics (might have been a sticky, but I don't remember) and now am not experiencing this problem anymore. Still not sure what exactly was fixed that would cause my reported problem, but it is no longer a problem anymore.

I've been using Edonkey for 4+ years now and have never had any problems.

I upgrade to .49a and my computer starts to reboot every few hours on its own. I reinstall windows and try installing emule first without any other software or anti-virus or anything and within 10 minutes my computer reboots on it's own again.

I've never had this problem until 49a. I don't have any anti-virus or firewalls up and running.

Any suggestions?

Thank you

I'm betting thats a windows thing. When you reinstalled windows, I'm guessing that your computer is, by default, set up to check the Microsoft website for updates. When updates are installed, a reboot is frequently required. Sometimes, windows doesn't give a lot of warning about this and if you aren't watching your open windows, you can easily miss the one that says "A reboot is required for this update. Rebooting in 60 seconds will occur unless you press the Cancel button" or some such message.

I recently had to reinstall windows on my machine too, and wound up with more than a hundred security patches from the windows update website to install, some of which required their installation to be separate from other packages. Its generally a good idea to check out the windowsupdate website on a frequent basis as security patches are released very frequently.

I dont know what your problem can be (gtype and georgie3), i said that my problem was for sure caused by wpa encryption method (and i say for sure, because after realizing this could be the problem, i tried to change router config to wep and wpa -without changing anything else-, and in all cases wpa leaded to reboot while using emule, and wep did not) if u are not using this, maybe the solution is somewhere else, i dont know.
I encourage all people using WPA with this problem to change to WEP and try emule again, u dont lose anything, and it solved the problem for me.

Have you heard that WEP does not provide any decent security? Doubtful solution.

Hi all

I currently have a problem connecting as when I do connect emule stops responding in between connection and New ID.

The actions I have taken were to uninstall and reinstall the application but problem remains.

Thanks for your time.

How this relates to crashes?
Please read around, especially sticky topics. If you cannot find the answer then open a new topic.

Ive been having these crashes ever since getting 49a too, and I had to do a whole host of things to get emule to work without blue screening or freezing up my computer. Ive just completed the last of them, so Im hoping it works this time.

1) I have firefox, so the first thing I did was uninstall all add ons. Firefox was blue screening even without emule running and uninstalling all add ons fixed that part of the problem

2) My connection is 30mbps down and 5 mbps up, but I think my router cant handle this (its a Netgear Wireless N Router WNR2000), so I reduced my speeds in preferences to 10mbps down and 1mbps up... this is the kind of speed I get during the peak daylight hours anyway, as my cable line is congested. I already have the router set to WEP

3) Disabled the antivirus and antispyware aspects of zone alarm internet security, and just use its firewall. I use avast! free antivirus, spyware terminator, malware bytes antimalware and a plus trojan remover, so I've no need for zone alarm's antivirus/antispyware.

4) Changed the max sources and max connections from 1000 for each to 400 for sources and 200 for connections. The 5 sec connection thing was already at 20, so I left that unchanged

5) Under display, I unchecked update queue in real time and also disabled history. I also disabled verbose logs under extended preferences and went and deleted my log folder (it was at 434 mb).

6) I also downloaded that one program that increases XP maximum TCP/IP connection limit from 10 to 255

7) I havent disabled KAD yet, does anyone think I should?

I had done 1,2,3 last night and emule ran fine for 6 hours before it blue screened-- which was alot better than in the past when it was more like 6 min, so Im hoping Im on the right track. I did 4,5,6 just now so Im hoping I can make emule run for at least 12 hours every day-- that's all I ask. Does anyone have any other recommendations?

My system specs:

CPU Q6600
Memory 2GB DDR2-5300
Operating system XP Home SP3
Nvidia GeForce 8800GTS 640mb video card, latest drivers with two 20" lcd monitors and dualview
Creative Audigy 2ZS sound card, latest drivers

One other thing, I have my temp downloads going to a firewire external hard drive, and the firewire port is on my sound card, so I hope this isnt going to cause any issues. The final complete files go to my c drive. One other thing, when emule first loads it says some parts of certain files are corrupt, does that mean the files are lost forever, or does emule redownload them? I suppose I should run a chkdsk, as the corruption might affect emule? So far, all it does is quickly cycle through them and then its business as usual with the downloading (until it freezes up or blue screens, that is.)

Well, now its blue screened again, this time after 2 hours of use. Ive now turned off KAD, but now download speeds are way down (uploads are still very fast though.) What to do now?

I saw someone state that emule plus seems to be free of the blue screen bug. Does emule plus not support KAD?

I blame microsoft for this-- why are blue screens even possible with these POS operating systems? Why doesnt the OS simply close the process which caused the blue screen and let the rest of the system function without it, instead of making us restart the whole thing?

I wish I had Linux! Its too bad MS is so widely accepted, I wish I could migrate to Linux and get all my software to work.

update: it takes awhile but download speeds are now back to around the same as upload speeds... I guess Im spoiled because Im used to much faster speeds than this, but its serviceable... around 100KBPS for both. Its too bad I had to disable KAD to stop the bluescreening... Im basically working with 1/40 the speed of my internet connection.
