Hi everyone!

I am new to emule but since I have started using it, I have always been stuck with a low ID for the eD2K network and firewalled on the KAD network. I have searched every corner of the net and attempted many tricks to solve that but without success. I really need some help from you if possible. Here is a summary of my situation:

I am using emule 0.50a and the Thomson TG585v8. When launching the emule first runtime wizard, the use of UPnP to setup ports failed despite that the router supports UPnP. So based on what I read on the net, I proceeded to manually forward the ports. To do so, I started by setting up a static IP address for my computer then I used the portforward.com website to lear hown to port forward my Thomson router and execute it. Despite all this, the TCP connection test failed. Then I tried to open ports for TCP and UDP on the windowsfirewall but nothing changed and the TCP connection test kept failing.

I have no clue now regarding what to do. Am I doomed with the low ID and therefore slow download speed all the time? I would really appreciate your help to be able to sort my problem.

Thank you very much

Hi vix5000. :)

First thing to know is if the ISP gives you a (real and not limited) PUBLIC IP or not.
For more informations, check Low Id With D-Link Dsl 2750E (click), especially 21st and 23rd posts.

INCONCEIVABLE! - You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means.

how can I know that? I am not sure I understood your post number 21.

When i do the port test on emule, they give me a testing IP that starts with 80.77.

On http://www.whatsmyip.org/, my IP starts with 193.88.

Does that help you identifying if my IP is real and public? Thank you!!

For me both services return the same IP, which gives suspicion that you have issues with getting public IP.

Put your "public" IPs in the browser and see if the router login window appears.
If yes, you have a public IP.
If not, most likely you don't have it.
You can also check your ISP website to search their policies about public ip.
And you can tell us what's your ISP, so we can also read (four eyes or more see better then two).
Finally, you can always call the ISP and ask.

If ISP cannot give you a public IP then either change ISP of use VPN.

By the way, routers might disable access to it's settings from WAN port, therefore it is possible you will not see login prompt in any case.

When I Put My "public" IPs in the browser, i get an error page "This site can’t be reached". does it mean that my ip is not public? If yes, then I can never get a high ID?

Plus I noticed something: when I used the same search query several times, i obtained every time a different number of results. There's even a couple of videos that I found only once and that downloaded partially but since then the download never ever resumed and I never found them again when repeating the search. Is my low id the reason for this or is it a different issue?

The answer was already given: most likely.
Ask your ISP if they are giving public IPs; sometimes they do it for additional fee.

Here are two questions actually.
Searches should give the same results.
But low ID cannot transfer data to another low ID peer; which effetively means that low ID have less useful sources.

the price they are asking for a public ip is ridiculously high. Isn't there any other way to get a high ID without a public IP?

they are never giving the same results even when the search attempts are consecutive and sometimes the difference is very big! That's why I am not being able to find now a video that I did find a couple of weeks ago and its download stopped since then after it had reached almost the half.

Please see message #7 above to know your options to get high ID without a public IP.

As for the search results, you cannot expect it to be exactly the same in volatale network, however results do not depent on high/low ID; but the number of sources useful to you does.

I never had to use VPN; but most probably it is not free.
Please try searching for VPN in this forum (and elsewhere).

Nice, but 500M in a month is like nothing for eMule.
