Hi all. Just wondering if anyone here recognizes this issue, or has seen it before and can help. Emule was working perfectly for me for months now, download speeds were good, and it ran smooth and clean and perfectly. All the sudden about a week ago it now takes awhile to connect to a server, and the worse comes next. Now, it is crawling along horribly slowly when trying to download, even before connecting to a server it is running slow, and when downloading now all I get is lousy download speeds, less files downloading, and every 10 seconds I get the "Not Responding" in the upper left corner, and the mouse symbol of course does the blue turning circle. Just to be clear, I am an IT professional and you can rule out several things to begin with. I have a kick ass computer and running Win 7 64bit Ultimate, and Fios Quantum, speeds are download-82.95 Mbps
Upload-73.18 Mbps. It also hangs and hangs when trying to exit Emule, unless I end the process itself. There is no malware, spyware or viruses on my PC, and most importantly, I changed no settings whatsoever in Emule, nor on my PC, and besides, this is only happening with Emule, nothing else on my PC is having an issue. I always get a HighID when connecting, no issues there. Again, there were no problems until about a week ago, and then out of the blue this started. I even did an uninstall and clean re-install of Emule, same issue. I have tried many things, nothing has worked and I am stumped. I've been using the same couple of servers to connect to all this time, had no issues before. If it's a bug in Emule, why would it just start showing up now after months of no problems? By the way, considering my bandwidth/speed numbers, what do you guys recommend to set my download and upload capacities and limits at, and other settings? Im just curious, the settings I had all this time worked fine, but just wondering. Anyways, if anyone can help, would really appreciate. Thanks

Hi!

Download capacity 10600
Upload capacity 9370
Upload limit 7000 (about 75%)
Max sources 1000
Max connections 100-500

Are you using emule 0.50a from sourceforge.net? Or 0.50b beta1?
Did you set "allocate full file size for non-sparse part files"?
Did you change anything in options extended?
Did you set emule TEMP folder in your antivirus exclusions?
Are you using ipfilters?
How many shared files?

Possible solution: stop and disable the "Windows search" service, rebuild the search index, re-enable the service.
INCONCEIVABLE! - You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means.

Very little data.

What you see in task manager?
How many files shared and downloading?
What you see in eMule's log and verbose log?

Hi, ok those numbers are pretty much what I have set, so those look good. Using emule 0.50a from sourceforge for sure. I will have to check on the "allocate full file size" setting, not sure on that. I didn't change any options in Extended, or anywhere actually. The emule Temp folder in antivirus exclusions is something I will need to check, that could be a possibilty. I think I have the box checked for use Ipfilters, I will confirm. Shared files are not too many. I'm pretty sure I disabled Windows Search, but will confirm.

Task manager looks ok, nothing standing out there or obvious. I will have to check on how many files, it was I think a lot, but no more than the last few months when emule was working fine. Only thing I notice in emule's log is sometimes it is hashing files, possibly because emule hasn't shut down properly sometimes, so it will rehash files to check them. Could this be causing an issue?

Maybe it was not clear enough, but how much CPU was eMule using when it crawls?
Was there a lot of disk activity?
Try Resource Monitor or Process Explorer for getting more detailed infomation.
There must be a reason for slowing down.
Heavily fragmented drive/files could cause poor performance.

Try to keep it reasonable; probably thousands would be too many.

Hashing uses disk and CPU a lot. Normally eMule needs to hash each file only once.

hey guys, thx I figured it out. I knew it wasn't the PC and figured it wasn't emule itself, so I figured hardware related and I was right. External drive I have the emule folders on was going bad. Luckily I don't keep anything important on that drive anyways, so copied the folders to a new drive and emule working normal again. Thx again everyone.

Thank you to have reported the cause here. ;)
