I just installed eMule on a new computer (Windows8). My router remained the same and the settings in there show the correct port designations. The test of the firewall shows everything OK. But when I go to the KAD screen and click connect, I get "Connecting" ... forever. This all worked on the old computer ... what am I missing now?

Fix your servers list and start downloading something by using servers, then Kad will connect.
To update your servers list Options - Server, be sure options number 4,5 and 7 are checked, remove all other checkmarks.
So options that have to be checked are only: Use smart LowID check on connect, Safe Connect and Use priority system.
In Servers click on a server and use Ctrl and A to select all servers, choose, if possibile, Remove From Static List, rightclick on a server and choose Remove All Servers.
In Update server.met from URL paste one of the following (or all if you like):
and hit Update.
Rightclick on PeerBooter and choose Priority - Low, repeat for PEERATES.NET, click Disconnect and then Connect.

Thanks, so very much ... I have had eMule for many years and was afraid I was going to lose it. Some points of clarification: The SEARCH METHOD is set to 'server' and should remain that way, not automatic, right? Does the list of servers need updating periodically? I was reluctant to try, but do these settings remain through a shut down of eMule?

Your choice. Try different methods if you can't find enough results.

About 10 days (empirical).

Yes, eMule will remember these settings unless you mess with files in eMule config folder.

KAD would not connect from servers, you need known clients.
Do you have any active downloads or uploads?
