 	-------------------------
 	1. How can I download faster?
 	-------------------------

eMule is about *SHARING*, not downloading! Anyway mind the following:

- get green arrows in the bottom right globe, read next answer;
- keep eMule running, the longer the better;
- don't mess up your settings, if you don't know, don't touch it.

 	-------------------------------------------------
 	2. How can I get green arrows in the globe (high ID)?
 	-------------------------------------------------

SHORT: setup your router and your firewall, some providers can block your eMule
 	anyway.

LONG: here you can read more details about how to setup your Router and your
 	Firewall. ------
 	--------

Router
------

To setup your router you can use UPnP. It can be enabled in eMule in
Options - Connection, if it works then in Servers - Log you should read:

UPnP successfully set up forwardings for ports 40251 (TCP) and 25554 (UDP)

if so, your router should be OK, but if you read:

UPnP failed to setup port forwardings, please foward those ports manually
 if necessary!

then you have to disable UPnP in eMule and manually forward ports in your
router.

To forward ports in your router log in your router and use your eMule ports and
your local IP address to create two rules for eMule.
To log in your router you should use one of the following (it depends on your
router manufacturer and model):

 http://192.168.1.1
 http://192.168.1.254
 http://192.168.0.1
 http://192.168.2.1
 http://10.0.0.1
 http://routerlogin

in your router interface you should read Advanced or NAT or Virtual Servers or
Port Forwarding or Firewall or Port Mapping. There you can create two rules for
eMule.
You can find eMule ports in Options - Connection.
You can use this trick to know your local IP:

 - in eMule Options - WebServer, enable it;
 - in Servers - WebServer you will read your IP as http://<YourLocalIP>:4711

Example of rules:

Name eMuleTCP Type TCP Internal Port 40251 IP 192.168.1.28 External Port 40251
Name eMuleUDP Type UDP Internal Port 25554 IP 192.168.1.28 External Port 25554

Firewall
--------

Windows firewall and most commercial firewalls don't need to be configured,
usually allowing eMule at first run is enough, if you didn't then close eMule,
delete everything about eMule in your firewall, open eMule and allow it through
the firewall itself, otherwise check the product manual, anyway it is like a
router setup, you just have not to put any IP.

Please note some internet service providers won't allow you to get high ID or
gives you a private (10.) or shared (100.) IP, if you have a private or shared
IP you can't have high ID, in such cases contact your internet service provider

Read FAQ 8 "I get low ID again, but it was all OK, why this happen?"

 	--------------------------------
 	3. How can I update my servers list?
 	--------------------------------

Servers - Update servers.met from URL use one of the following:

 http://shortypower.org/server.met
 http://gruk.org/server.met.gz
 http://serveurs.emule-french.org
 http://upd.emule-security.org/server.met
 http://e-elinks.webs.com/server.met
 http://peerates.net/servers.php
 http://emuling.net23.net/server.met
 http://update.adunanza.net/servers.met

 	--------------------------------
 	4. How can I connect to Kad network?
 	--------------------------------

Get a high ID and start downloading something.

You can try to boostrap Kad in Kad - IP or Address by using:

 63.64.164.91:5298
 195.236.75.57:5674
 StartMyKad19.eMuleSecurity.ita.co:1701
 213.84.166.203:4673
 StartMyKad52.eMuleSecurity.ita.co:1765
 216.63.109.137:5553

 	--------------------------
 	5. How can I avoid fake files?
 	--------------------------

Before downloading:

 - check file details;
 - check file ratings;
 - read comments;
 - more than other... use your brain! Can a .txt have a bitrate!? No.

During download:

 - check file type in Trasfers - Details;
 - use preview;
 - check file names, does they match somewhat? They should!

 	-----------------------------------------------
 	6. I cannot add a file to Transfers, what can I do?
 	-----------------------------------------------

Options - Directories, be sure eMule can write in these directories.
If you are using Windows Vista or newer you should avoid to use directories
under Program Files.
C:\Program Files(x86)\eMule\Temp is bad, but C:\Users\Tim\Downloads\eMule\Temp
is good.

 	----------------------------------------------------------
 	7. Why downloads are vanished from the list and what can I do?
 	----------------------------------------------------------

Check if the correct path to the temporary folder is entered in Options -
Directories.

In Servers - Log check if there are corrupted .met files.
If some of your .met files are corrupted *do not* reboot eMule, open
downloads.txt or downloads.bak from eMule config folder and use one of these:

 - DonkeyDoctor http://contentdb.emule-project.net/download.php?file=15721
 - MetMedic http://contentdb.emule-project.net/download.php?file=733
 - MetFileRegenerator http://contentdb.emule-project.net/download.php?file=5413
 - Known Metinator ed2k://|file|KM.zip|117935|F1AA483F9306D4A37020E663E2BE7922|

 	------------------------------------------------------
 	8. I get low ID again, but it was all OK, why this happen?
 	------------------------------------------------------

Check again your firewall, sometimes a firewall update can mess up things.

Your router assigns dynamically an IP to your device, you have to set a static
IP in Windows or reserve your computer IP in your router, this way your router
is forced to give the same IP to your computer at every boot.
If more than one device is connected to your router IP reservation is
recommended, it avoids IP conflicts between devices.
Not all routers allows you to reserve the IP, in these cases choose an IP that
your router cannot manage and set it as static.
To reserve your IP in your router search Address Reservation or Static DHCP or
MAC-Base assignement or so, it depends on your router, you may need to know
your physical address to do so.
To set a static IP you have to type your IP in your connection properties.

 	----------------------
 	9. How can I update eMule?
 	----------------------

- Download latest .zip binaries from here

 http://sf.net/p/emule/files/eMule

and overwrite your old emule.exe with the new one, overwrite your language file
in eMule /lang directory with the new one, too.

- Another method is to download the new installer from here

 http://sf.net/projects/emule/files/latest/download

close (not unistall!) your old eMule and install the new one, but keep in mind
you have to choose the same directory, otherwise problems will arise.

eMule stores your identity in preferences.dat file, it uses cryptkey.dat to
validate your identity and stores other people credits in clients.met file,
so if you have to move your eMule or if you have trouble keep these files
at least.

 	--------------------------
 	10. How many servers are there?
 	--------------------------

About ten.
Do not use random servers lists, just use recommended ones and delete all
servers if you have more than 20 servers, then update your servers list again.

 	-------------------------------------
 	11. Why is surfing slower when eMule runs?
 	-------------------------------------

eMule uses a lot of network resources.

By default eMule uses UploadSpeedSense, a method to determine upload speed, it
may fail, in this case set an upload limit manually. To do so go to the
Options tab, enter the Download Capacity and Upload Capacity according to your
internet connection. All values in eMule are kilo Bytes (kB), your Internet
Service Provider's (ISP) numbers are most likely kilo bits (kb).
8 bits make up 1 Byte, so when your internet connection is 7482 Kbps
downstream and 613 kbps Upstream, your correct values are:

 Downstream: 7482 kbps / 8 = 935.3 kB/s, you enter 935 as Download Capacity
 Upstream:	613 kbps / 8 = 76.6 kB/s, you enter 77 as Upload Capacity

The capacity values are used for the statistics display only. Nevertheless,
you need to know them to determine download and upload limits.

Set limits to ~80% of your capacities, so when your download capacity is 935,
set download limit to 750 and when your upload limit is 77 set upload limit to
62.

Don't get mad because of these numbers, a simple trick can help you:

 7482 kbps (misured speed) -> 748 ~ 750 kB/s download limit
 613 kbps (misured speed) -> 61 ~ 62 KB/s upload limit

Got it? Just strip last number if misured in bit and set it as limit in Byte!

Setting Upload Limit to a value < 10 will automatically reduce your download
limit, so upload as fast as you can.

eMule uses a lot of connections, too. If you use a router set maximum
connections to 120 and you will be OK, you can increase this number to get more
sources at startup (you will notice differences at startup only) but it may
hang your device, so make it at your own risk.

 	------------------------
 	12. Which is the best server?
 	------------------------

No one, really.

Do not choose the server, servers do not have any file, servers gives to your
eMule the list of clients that share parts of your files.
Ignore ping, ignore the number of users connected, eMule will contact all
servers in your serverslist anyway.

 	-----------------------------------------------------
 	13. Should I set all my files to high priority or release?
 	-----------------------------------------------------

No.

Priorities are used to favour certain files over the other. The priorities are
relative to each other, i.e. all files to low priority is the same as all files
to high or all files to normal.
Priority for downloads influences how eMule treats the file when searching for
sources or when processing connections. Upload priority determines which files
eMule favours when someone requests this file. Other clients who request high
priority uploads will advance faster in your queue.

 	-------------------------------------
 	14. Should I start eMule as administrator?
 	-------------------------------------

No.

If you cannot add files because your Temp path is under the Program Files then
change that path, in other cases running eMule as administrator will have no
effect at all.

 	----------------------
 	15. Which ports are better?
 	----------------------

No one.

Do not change eMule ports, eMule randomize ports during installation and that
is perfectly fine, if special ports will exist then eMule developer will add
them to eMule as default.
Do not use the same port for TCP and UDP, again: do not change eMule ports.

 	-------------------------
 	16. Where can I get more help?
 	-------------------------

If you didn't find an answer, *search* the website here

 http://emule-project.net/home/perl/help.cgi

or eMule forum for a topic related to your problem

 http://forum.emule-project.net/index.php?app=core&module=search

please *do not* open a new topic before doing that, most likely someone else
had the same problem before.
You can get real time help on IRC, just click on IRC and choose a
not-too-unwise nickname. Read the channel before asking questions.
Please be polite, we are all volunteers.

Non ti sbattere, lavoro inutile. I file README non li ha mai letti nessuno, a maggior ragione se non tradotti, anzi "intorno" all'eseguibile ci son pure troppi file che finiscono per confondere l'utente. Per me andrebbero rimossi.

Se si riesce a tenere aggiornata la sezione Docs è grasso che cola.
