I'm a long-time user, not an expert by any means, but generally self-sufficient. I download several types and sizes of files, but this problem is entirely with video files in the 100 - 1500 MByte range. Lately, it seems like many of them get to 70-80% complete, but then complete very slowly or not at all. Right now, I'm at a point where essentially my whole download list is like this.

I always have a High ID on eD2K and Open-Open status on KAD. I have my upload rate unlimited so as to share with peers all the parts of files that I have downloaded already, and thereby to focus group efforts on the missing parts. All of my download files (211 of them at the moment) have been "Seen Complete" within the last week, according to the main e-Mule screen. I regularly refresh my Server List (via gruk). Virtually all of these files are uploading from me frequently, so I'm not the only one looking, and while they do tend to be low on sources, none of them consistently have zero sources online, and some have 10, 15, or 20 sources or more. Generally, though, when I expand the file and check, none of the available sources has the complete file.

So I guess I'm puzzled. If the files have all been "Seen Complete" recently, and if at least a small number of users are trying to download them, why can't I (or my peers) ever seem to get access to that "Complete" source, and, more importantly, what can I do about it?

Thanks!

Did you get corrupted pats? If yes, you could have downloaded a bad file.
Check if you see amule 2.2.6 or 2.3.1 clients, named http://emule-project.net, between the clients taht are sending data to you: those should be fake clients.

Otherwise, maybe you are downloading files with a higher percentage of complete sources but with a lower number of availability (sources)... Try to re-search those files and choose them according to their availability (and at least 1% complete sources).
INCONCEIVABLE! - You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means.

I do check for files that consistently get corrupted parts downloaded, especially the same part over and over again, and I delete those from the list. I do also re-search for files, not only on eMule, but also checking for torrents and in places that have sources from sites like Depositfiles, Rapidgator, etc. I have pared down my list this way, but many of the files that are left are ones I cannot find elsewhere, nor can I find versions with better sources on eMule.

Thanks!

Without new downloads added, it is only natural that the working downloads will complete and vanish from transfer window, and the problematic downloads will stay.
So it probably is not a problem as "of lately" but just the general problem of badly shared (by complete sources) files.
- too big a share, with lots of downloads along so clients with credits will like always bypass you. particularly if the complete source is not online 24/7.

Check to see if those fellow downloaders have the very same set of chunks, or less (nothing in blue, ever). If so then check if the complete source(s) ever uploaded anything to you. If they did not in like weeks, then you might be out of luck.

I usually put those highly-unlikely-to-finish downloads into an extra category, so I do not have to see them all the time.
Soemtimes I put a comment on them like "not seen complete in 2 months" or whatever is appropriate.
And I put them on lowest UL-prio - no need to waste my precious upload with presumably dead files.

Some few times sending a message to the complete source to maybe please reconsider their sharing scheme actually did the trick.
web-searching for ed2k: [relevant parts of filename] may find boards where the file had been posted, and maybe asking for a re-share there has success.
but that is pretty much desperate measures. :cry2:

How do you download anything with Emule in the first place? Someone needs to provide a pictorial that shows exactly step by step how to use EMULE to download anything without any exctra bullshit and then using the excuse of that's how you learn.

Don't bother directing me elsewhere because you're wasting your time and I'm not going to bother wasting my time.. If I just said I need a pictorial with no bullshit involved, then I mean just that...So trying to redirect me elsewhere means you don't give a shit about helping me

Coluche -

Thanks! Some interesting comments and ideas.

It is true that the sources I see most of the time have exactly the same chunks as I do. But occasionally, I do see the complete source on the list, but neither I nor the other sources ever seem to connect to that complete source and add the missing chunks. In all other cases, the file list always seems to have a recent date on the "Seen Complete" column, but there again, neither I nor any of the other sources never seem to be able to connect to get those missing chunks (or it takes months and months to do so).

A few comments ...

First of all, this is a thread I created to ask a specific question. Posting an unrelated question here is bad for both of us - me because it is likely to confuse the thread with answers to your question being posted as well as answers to mine, and you because people able to help you may miss your post because they won't look for it under a thread with the title I gave to this one.

Secondly, I think that e-Mule provides and enormous amount of help. The program itself will lead you through a typical set-up, and there are online tutorials here on this forum for every step of the process, as well as extensive discussion and help for things that may prove difficult.

Thirdly, not everything can be a linear, step-by-step process. Depending on your computer, operating system, modem, router, WiFi connection, etc., some steps will be different. Generally, the standard procedures will work fine except for occasional LowID / HighID and Firewall issues, and as I mentioned above, there are many help topics for that.

Finally, I'd gently remind you that e-Mule is a FREE program, and both the author(s) and those who try to help here are UNPAID VOLUNTEERS. If you had paid for the software and support and were dissatisfied, the unpleasant tone of your post might be justified. But you haven't paid a penny or contributed in any other way, as far as I can tell, and being rude to the people you are asking for help is not an optimal strategy for generating useful responses (IMHO).

Not sure, I followed instructions, they were easy, and got ... Runtime: 156 Days 16:21 Hours, Downloaded Data: 2.12 TB (Completed Downloads: 4056), Uploaded Data: 4.88 TB (Upload Sessions: 541986), seems to work out of the box, idiot proof, nearly ....

ok, those fake amule client did what they want, they totally abuse my emule from doing anything because it's never relief from gui lock while hashing,
and there is nothing I can do except compile a custom mod to ban every amule client, which I don't really wanna do.
