I recently did a reinstall of emule and now when I connect I get a message that says "no server list address entry in addresses.dat found. Please paste a valid server list address into the file in order to auto-update your server list. If i click in the kad area from known clients bootstrap, it does open a list..but I have to do this every time...How do I fix this?

In eMule Options - Server, untick first 3 options and the number six: Auto-update server list at startup, Update server list when connecting to a server, Update server list when a client connects and Autoconnect to servers in static list only.
In 'Servers' right click on a server, choose 'Remove all' click in the space under 'Update server.met from URL' and press Ctrl and Del, used serverslists should desappear, click here and choose 'Add to eMule', use only these servers, otherwise you probably have a faked serverslist.

If you use default values (and it's highly recommended) eMule keeps used serverslists URL in Update servers.met from URL, so you can use that list again in the future.

For the second question

Options - Connection, be sure UDP port is not disabled and Kad is enabled in Network.
When you open eMule just click on the left corner button Connect and *wait* or tick Autoconnect on startup in Options - Connection.

I followed the instructions adding the serverlist from the site in the link and this did seem to solve the problem. However, when restarting emule the new list seems to disappear and i would have to add it again. What haven't I done that would keep this list when I restart emule?

Yes..I see this message repeated many times....Failed to save server.met! You may need to delete server.met and rename server.met.old to server.met! - Access to C:\Program Files (x86)\eMule\config\server.met was denied.

I looked in config..I hae a server.met and server.met.net though no server.met.old

Options - Connection, copy your TCP and UDP ports and paste them in notepad.
Options - Directories, copy your Incoming files folder and your Temporary files folder(s) and paste them in notepad.

Options - Extended - Sharing eMule with other computer users check that 'Store config and downloads in the program directory' is selected, otherwise tell me and stop here.
Select 'Each user has its own configuration and downloads' click OK, again OK, reboot eMule.

If you had high ID before put the old TCP and UDP ports in eMule and reboot eMule.
If you are downloading something Tools - Import Downloads and choose the previous Temp directory.
If you are sharing something Options - Directories find your new Incoming directory and move files from the old Incoming directory to the new Incoming directory.

I think you have lost me a little here...not sure which problem is being addressed. The issue of the moment seems to be that the list of servers that I added with Gruk.org seems to disappear when I restart emule. When I clicked each user has its own configuration and downloads everything seemed to be wiped clean..so I went back to store config and downloads in the program directory. I'm not clear if this was to address that problem, but not seeing how it would.

I have found my low ID issue is totally caused by my adding a router recently. If I disconnect it the low ID is gone, and if I reconnect it, it returns. I think these are separate issues.

Read it again please.
Of course you have not to go back.
Use the 'Each user has its own configuration and downloads' option and update your serverslist.

Welcome DEDANOE, please do not write all in caps because it is like shouting.

Reinstalling eMule is never necessary, everything can be fixed in eMule itself. In this case you should change few eMule options and update your serverslist from a trusted source.

Options - Server, be sure options number 4,5 and 7 are checked, remove all other checkmarks.
So options that have to be checked are only: Use smart LowID check on connect, Safe Connect and Use priority system.
In Servers click on a server and use Ctrl and A to select all servers, choose, if possibile, Remove From Static List, rightclick on a server and choose Remove All Servers.
In Update server.met from URL paste one of the following (or all if you like):

http://shortypower.org/server.met
http://gruk.org/server.met.gz
http://serveurs.emule-french.org
http://upd.emule-security.org/server.met
http://peerates.net/servers.php

and hit Update.
Rightclick on PeerBooter and choose Priority - Low, repeat for PEERATES.NET, click Disconnect and then Connect.

There is not any data.met file in eMule, all eMule files in the config folder are listed here. I believe you was talking about the server.met file or the addresses.dat file, my personal advice is to leave them alone.
Please read the documentation, read sticky topics and use the search function.

Of course I can help.
A good start point is to read this topic on guides and these frequently asked questions and answers about the subject, in particular keep in mind that eMule is not intended to be the fastest downloading tool, or at least this is not the main goal of this program.

Do you have High ID on servers? You can check it in the Servers window in eMule.
I would recommend you either to set the upload capacity to 0 (when the upload capacity is zero the Upload Speed Sense should set the upload limit dynamically) or to set an upload limit, the documentation page about the Connection screen in the Options windows is this one.
To test your connection you can use these websites: http://speedof.me/ http://www.speedtest.net .
You can give us the results, this way we can help you to find the best value to set as upload limit; if so please tell us how many devices are connected in your local network, too.

I am really sorry to hear that you have more serious problems, I believe you should not stay alone with these problems and you have protest loudly to the head man in all of this (chief of police, mayor etc.).
