Hi everybody,

I posted one month ago in the French language category but no 1 answer within one month (!) so I try in English now. Sorry for some mistakes! ;)

So, I have a LowID!!!!!!!! But NOT the usual problem, I warm you. In the past (I've been using eMule since March 2004 and it is my Precious!), that so typical LowID problem happened sometimes for whatever reason & each time it was quite simple & fast to resolve; this time, it's different.

More one month ago, I moved, and in my new appartment, in Shanghai, China PRC, not ADSL anymore, but Optic fiber, 10Mo, with wifi (The China Telecom modem is also router since it can be used as wifi. But the wifi connexion is not good so I use a specific router, good quality : NetGear54. So, no problem of internet connection : my notebook Hp Pavilion dv6 (Windows 7 64bits) --- Router NetGear54 --- Modem China Telecom --- Internet works, I can use the web, no problem except Chinese regim's censorship but it doesn't care of eMule, not enough politically dangerous for them.

BUT since I use NetGear, I have a LowID!

So I thought it was because of the router. Ok. So mail exchanges with NetGear, the 2 ports (I hope it is also "port" in English, you know : TCP 8496 and UDP 25256) have been OPENED in routerloging.net. BUT NO IMPROVEMENT!
So, I checked the Windows firewall, and ok, opened for eMule.
So, I wanted to create a fixed IP. I did it. I hope what I do was good (I did it according to eMule French website's tutorial), BUT NO IMPROVEMENT!
So, I wrote to Avast! because I have Avast! Pro as my antivirus and I'm waiting for their answer BUT actually it's just for a confirmation because I can't see how Avast! suddenly could prevent eMule from going well, it's never done that!!!

Well, so I am TOTALLY CONFUSED! Impossible for me to understand WHAT bothers my eMule. And, now, after I reinstall eMule (Because, off course, I tried the desinstallation and re-installation...), after I force a fixed IP, my eMule upload and download have not ever been so few!!!

Last thing : because of increasing censorship en China (Google officially unaccessible for some weeks now), I bought and install a VPN, Astrill, 2 weeks ago. I thought that by the way, kind of, that could help me for my eMule problem! Failure! BUT the first time I used Astrill, a HighID appeared with eMule!!! :) Why? No idea. And since that 1st time, no HighID again. Why? No idea either!!! :( Anyway, I'm not a specialist and I don't understand really how to work a VPN, but you have just to know that with or without Astrill, LowID!!!

So, here we go. IS THERE ANYONE HERE WHO CAN GUESS WHAT MY PROBLEM COULD BE???? Really thanks in advance if you can help me!!! :)))

Regards,

Prospero

Do you mean you get a high ID without the Netgear?

If the answer to my previous question is 'yes' then I believe you did some mistake here.

If the answer to my previous question is 'yes' your problem has nothing to do with your firewall.
Anyway reading eMule in Windows Firewall exceptions list may be not enough, let's talk about that later.

A fixed IP won't cause a high ID, it may be useful to keep a high ID.
I recommend you to never set a fixed IP 'brutally'. Again, let's talk about that later.

An antivirus doesn't cause a low ID.

Never do that, is pointless, it never fixes any problem.

Could you remove the router and connect directly to the modem for a test?
Then you will know if it is possible to get high ID at all.
