emule doesn't know epub is a document. If you search with type = document, no .epub files will show up.
Same for .azw and .mobi, and probably many other e-book document types.

True.
Complete list: download sources here, extract and find \eMule0.50a-Sources\srchybrid\otherfunctions.cpp file.

Suggestion: make it updateable, e.g. via (automatically) downloadable .dll :flowers:

I'd prefer a new preferences.ini setting (if possible). :)

@xilolee: no, that wouldn't suffice.
The reason is that that feature will only work and help ALL users if MOST of the users support it, e.g. it's almost no use if you (or some mods) correctly identify & publish .epub as a document - this is something that has to work silently and automatically.

Anyway that preference could be updated through new released versions (preferences.ini), whilst with the dll file users must wait a new release to add some missing extensions (if new extensions will appear in the future), or they should edit the dll file (that it could be simple for developers or advanced users, whilst the preferences.ini option is simpler than that, at least for intermediate users). :)

Editing a local file would not help as explained above.
It's by far better to have a centralized database (i.e. .dll) that could be compiled and distributed regularly depending on user feedback, etc. :flowers:
It would allow updating a part of eMule without having to create a whole new release :thumbup:

the wizard-s idea is more efficent for end (noob user) (i think is a good idea to introduce the autoupdate of mediainfo.dll)

How about Options/Files and add a File Types section and allow the user to update the information there to be stored in the preferences.ini file.

Of course the document types should include all the previously mentioned types that didn't exist when the last stable release was coded as a default for new releases, but give the user flexibility to add/modify what they want through the preferences.ini and options screen.

Best of both worlds.
