my emule v .48a just started giving me a low id message. I've been using it for a long time. I've verified my ip is correctly targeted in my router's port forwarding. The only thing I can think of is my most recent mcafee firewall update may be the problem. I tried turning it off, but still no go.

Has anyone else recently had a low id after successful long time use with mcafee? If so, how did you resolve it?

Many times people had that problem with McAfee. A firewall may cause trouble even if disabled, the only known solution that works for sure is to unistall it.
Try to unistall McAfee and reboot your PC, Windows Firewall will be enabled again, if you have Windows Vista or newer in Windows control panel you have to check that your network is seen as a private network and not a public one, then remove eMule from exceptions in Windows Firewall, note that this is different from untick eMule in Windows Firewall, then you can restart eMule and allow eMule when Windows Firewall will ask you for an authorization.

What's the reason to stick to 0.48a? You could upgrade as well.

I just posted this advice to another user but i think it applies to you too so i quote myself

Yes I had this problem also with BT and McAfee. McAfee seemed to run ok until I upgraded to the newer improved version then that's then why my troubles started.
So after getting no joy from talking to McAfee and BT support I installed a month trial version of Bitdefender. Straightaway high ID again. So I had to decide whether i wanted to keep the McAfee which was free with my BT broadband and have a low ID forever or pay a few quid for another program and keep getting my high ID. I chose to keep my high ID. Maybe to avoid the cost of paying for security(think it was £30) you can find a free one that will work just as well.
Hope this helps!
