I've been encountering archives packed with unrelated files that substantially increase their size. The releases are not entirely fake, because the labels reflect part of the desired contents (let's say, software or midi sequences). But on top of what should be there, there are sometimes videos or mp3s of popular music added. Sometimes the videos are of the triple-ex variety, but not always. These files also appear to be well seeded most of the cases. The videos and mp3s are not executable and therefore could not have been made to spread malware.
What is the purpose of such releases?
