Pc Configuration - Intel® Pentium®D CPU 3.00GHZ, 1 GB of RAM
- Operating System - XP Home Edition Service Pack 3
- Internet connection type (Bandwidth, Eg: 1024/320 DSL) - Cable 10mb
- Modem, Router, Proxy (manufacturer and model) - modem "Motorola 584200 SURFboard Cable Modem" or "Terayon Docsis Modem" (I'm not sure) and router TP-Link WR841N
- Firewalls - have Comodo installed, but disabled; use only XP's firewall
- Antivirus - AVG version 8.5.455
- Spyware detector - IObit security 360, spybot serch and destroy, Active security monitor, CCleaner are the softwares I have installed but most of them are disabled and I don't use them regularly
- Emule Version - 0.50a

Emule Settings (Options tab)
- Dl/Ul capacity - 300 and 50 (respectively)
- Dl/Ul limits - The square is not checked
- Hard limit - 1500
- Max Connection - 1500
- Activated networks (ED2k, Kad, Both) - both
- Max. new connection/5 secs (Options -> Extended) - 50
- Max half open connection (Options -> Extended) - 50
- Ports TCP/UDP - 58123 & 58128 (respectively)
- HIgh ID

Ok, so I ran Speed Test and got Downloadspeed: 9.84, 8.99, 8.09, 7.92... and Uploadspeed around 1 mbps
the Ping is around 29-40ms.
tested when Emule was closed.

So what should my conf be?
Should I check the Dl/Ul limit boxes? what should the Dl/Ul be? what about the figures in the Options-->Extended?

Moreover, hopefully you could advice me with that too:
1) When I open Emule I get an "adresses.dat" file messege and that I need to paste a correct servers list. But when I press OK I get all the servers that I updated from server-mat.com, and I can connect to the best servers available, so actually there's no problem despite the "adresses.dat" messege. how can I eliminate this startup messege?

2) When I open Emule and connect to a server, Kad doesn't connect unless I press Connect (bootstrap). And I've already updated from nodes.dat. For some reason it doesn't save and connect me automatically.

Servers right click Remove all, Options -> Server deselect, if selected, options 2 and 3, keep option 1 selected click List... and paste

It's normal.
You can automaticaly connect Kad and server this way: Options -> Connections select Autoconnect on startup.

Servers tab button connects only servers.
Connect button in the upper left corner of eMule tries to connects boths ED2K and KAD.

Bad math.
To avoid silly mistakes, use Options > Connection > Wizard > Custom - and then you enter the measured speeds from speedtest.net

1mbps is 122KB/s capacity, and the limit could be at 97 (but not higher)
10mbps is 1221KB/s capacity, and the limit can be unchecked.
Wizard also sets Hard limit at 1000 and Max Connections at 800. That should be enough.

Standard 20 should be enough. To set it higher make sure that network equipment works well with that load.

Thanks for the quick response! I appreciate it.
it's working, but not as fast as I thought, rather just as good as before I made any changes (I had the random settings that came with the software, and only then I changed to the settings that I wrote in my first post and this is when the problems started).
Basically I'm at 30-50 kbps (8 files, each 2.1gb or more, 4 files with 3-5 sources and are downloading for a grand total of 50 kbps), which is good, but again, I thought the new settings would have a greater affect.

Update: and as we speak I'm at 110 kbps (!), though roughly 85 kbps is credited to only 1 file, and unfortunately it's not the file I'm nervous to get.

The bigger problem right now is that I often get thrown out of the server and need to reconnect. It happens every now and then, says the server is full and the connection lost.
You wrote that server-mat is outdated, but I managed to connect to some ("Razorback2" IIRC and others) and it didn't kick me out, so should I add manually those who were working or should I just use the ones I have?

These are fake servers, do NOT use fake servers! Delete all servers but the severs I suggested.
In eMule -> Shared Files how many files do you share? You can read that number on the left corner of the screen.

The only random setting is port numbers. Other values are set to reasonable defaults. Playing with settings without knowing what it does, is (to put it mildly) unwise.

Another issue, I have noticed something strange.
downloading is faster when I download movies (and not games) and smaller files (for exemple, 700 mb rather than 2.5 gb)
Is it normal?

Your download speed depends on source upload speed and number.
How often you get kicked out by a server?
