Well, the bad thing is that even if I could tweak something, it'd be useless without the greatest part of the network supporting it. You can add extensions to eMule but as soon as you want to change stuff network-wide, you have to rely on the "big player" out there and that is the Vanilla client. That's also IMHO one of the reasons why a lot of modders "gave up" sooner or later.

AFAIR I once came up with an idea to speed up spreading of files by faking a download, i.e. you download the file you are sharing, you are promoting yourself as source for the file and then disconnect. That has 2 drawbacks: CA will detect you as filefaker and it has increased overhead and thus it's probably not allowed in an official mod.
Aside from that, I have no idea, sorry. :angelnot:

What good is not having the overhead if you're not really doing anything on the network lol. That's like having a car turned off and bragging how fuel efficient it is. I remember the days of Overnet which was serverless as well and it basically behaved like Bittorent with endless sharing of files found in eMule. We know how it all ended, but it's just an ancient proof that eMule style network can be fast and efficient even without servers. Something which can't be said for eMule unfortunately. Closest thing really is your kMule. But it inherits all the KAD problems from official client...

Looks like eMule is basically a dead client with dead network. It's just stagnating because everything depends on official client, official client devs blame it on modders for not creating "new tech" and modders blame it back on official team because in the end it all depends on what they include in the client. And the cycle repeats while network is slowly deteriorating and users leaving for other P2P networks...

I have just posted a public beta release. I don't know how much time I'll find to handle any issues that arise but I'll do my best :flowers:

As stated in the first post, please do NOT consider this version stable and use it at your own risk. It should not cause any explosions, but who knows?

Nice :D First Beba and now kMule. It's like Christmas in a very early spring :D

Love the new trey icons. Also like the "Availability" graphics. Was the Info button available before? I don't remember it. Certainly a nice addition as well (easier self diagnostics as well as helping you out if there are any problems). Though you can't move the "Info" menu separator between left and right side. You strictly have to use sliders to extend the view of one or another field. But this is just a minor annoyance.

I just got one idea while looking at the "Availability" status graphics...

Lowest QR (for a given file)
Could you add an extra column in download page that says "Lowest QR" (or something along that line) that would indicate the closest place to download in download queue for that file without the need to manually expand the downloads and using "Priority" column to see that? So you can directly see if you'll have to wait in line for a longer time or not for any file at any given time without expanding anything.

I think this should be relatively easy to do since you basically just have to read an already existing value, weight it whether it's the lowest of all given QR's for each file and display that number in its own column. I know it sounds easier than it is to actually code into an app but I'd find this a really helpful addition. Like you can see from the example, for this file, my closest place in queue for a download is 31 and this should be indicated in the "Lowest QR" column. If this source goes offline or if I already get data from it and I'm thrown back into the queue, next number should be displayed instead. For example 37 or even 269. Or whatever it is the lowest at that time. Maybe even something else clever to indicate how your places changed so you know how you're moving through the queue of that particular file (on average since you can't merge all queues into one number).

Why do I find this feature very useful? You know how it is with eMule, you wait for hours to get your chunk of a pie and if you're fiddling with a computer, going offline just when you're about to get your chunk of data means you'll wait hours more. But if it says a very low number (meaning I'll soon download from that client), I'll most likely wait and do whatever I want with a computer sometime later. And this extra column would make it so much more convenient.

And another small request...

Can you move this setting where it belongs? I don't know who thought this feature belongs into this page, under a dropdown menu that controls a totally unrelated features. Just separate it from the menu and move it as a standalone setting to the Display menu. Where it should be since day one.

I had lowQR in one of my mods already... will note it down (as well as your other proposal) but I'd be happy - for now - if the existing stuff would work correctly in the first place :flowers:

So far so good. Haven't noticed any bugs yet. How do I check what files are shared on KAD? In Beba and official, there are server/KAD icons in Shared files section. Can't seem to find anything similar (just for KAD) in this latest kMule build. Then again I could be blind as a bat and that's the reason why I don't see it XD

Shared files tab has an "indexed" column for that. "Shared" is confusing because obviously all files are shared but may not be indexed, yet. :angelnot:

Well, you know what I mean :P

Also, so annoying... I'm online for 4 hours with kMule. Guess how many clients I have waiting in my upload queue. 0. Just 1 person downloading a file I'm also downloading from someone else. And that's it. And then eMule devs say everything is fine with the eMule network the way it is (in its 56k era connectivity design). KAD as such works fine, but this propagation of shared files is stupendously slow. I know there are certain restrictions so you don't overload the network with file/source requests, but this is just retarded. I know Wizard, you can't do anything about it as a modder without breaking everything, but this is just stupid to the max. There is so much potential in KAD and they just leave it to rot... ugh

EDIT:
Just checked the indexed status. 4 hours needed for 1/5th of all my files. The rest most likely won't even ever get indexed on KAD. And then I'll restart my computer and do something and all the hours long KAD work will be pissed away...

EDIT2:
Love your kMule, the concept of it is brilliant. Down to basics client, what stock eMule should be. But the lack of contribution to the network is just too painful so I had to return to Beba. Sry.

No problem. :angelnot:

BTW, while eD2k is probably a nearly "dead" network indeed, I can't say that Kad2 faces a similar fate in the near future. Also, I wonder what might be wrong with your Kad indexing speed. When I last added a file to my Kad shares, I had the first upload rather soon.

Well, I do share almost 5000 files, totaling 150 GB. And I already know what the answer from devs is. "Uh oh, you're sharing too many files". Excuse me, but I'm living in year 2016. It's not my fault if your P2P client is still stuck in the 90's. With multi-terabyte storage drives and fast connections, one would expect that high file counts and massive volume of files (cumulative size) is something normal and expected these days. Network should handle it. After all, a lot of stuff in my share is rare and old stuff. Something you can just forget on ANY BitTorrent link after just 1 year... teh point of fiel sharing is to, I don't know, share as much stuff as possible at highest possible speed you can handle? But that's just my logic...

It's time for KAD3 I guess. But considering they can't even update something as basic as server.met file in the official client, expecting KAD3 is just a distant mirage...

I see 2 "problems":
1. Some files are rare because nobody wants them (SlugFiller, where r u? ;)) - thus, you won't get requests
2. You are sharing too many files

How many files are you sharing, actually?
The indexing speed is the same with kMule and eMule (or it should be) - only servers can make a difference here.

I thought of something that could help if the official client would support it... only some brainstorming so far but basically, you don't index individual files but only libraries/collections, e.g. you share an album and index that a library to download from. A library is basically a collection but it's only shared if you also share the files in the library, i.e. if I download a library from you or see you as a source for the library, then I know that I can download all files in that library from you.

Hi Wizard,

No connect with the new beta, Lubuntu 15.10 64 bit, wine last version and root access (I need the root access to allow pings for USS).
Ports correctly open with upnp.
Clean install, I tried to manually download with the browser the nodes.dat and to insert it in the Config folder but I still have the bootloop

If stopping to share files because no one wants them CURRENTLY, what's the point of eMule then? We already have BitTorrent which is excellent for NOW and CURRENTLY as well as THIS MOMENT, but as soon as torrent is few months old, it'll most likely be useless unless it's something super requested anyway. Of course no one requests the files if they aren't even visible to people. That's the issue.

If all my files were always fully shared at all times and half of them got no requests in 5+ years time, then I'd know no one needs them. But the way how stuff currently works, I have no way of knowing. Maybe no one needs them, maybe they just never got properly shared/indexed. Especially since I was using just KAD for very long time without even knowing it's not sharing my files entirely. I just got to know the meaning of those icons in the Shared File section like what, 2-3 years ago or so.

Do you think there is a way to utilize dedicated KAD servers just to help route the connections between otherwise decentralized KAD clients? So that those servers act sort of like SuperNodes. But designed in such a way that they can't be tempered with (easily at least, anything can get hacked apart eventually). Imagine these SuperNodes as sort of roundabouts for all the eMules. They aren't tied to it like they are with servers, but they'd somehow help all the clients get together even though they are just "passing through". Just brainstorming as well...

Hm, manually removed PeerBooter from the IPfilter and it seems to do just what I called "SuperNodes" with the Beba. Supposedly it doesn't index my "suspicious" content, but After long pause and restart, I already have 4 people receiving data from me. And I don't think 5 minutes have passed. With just KAD, it would take hours and I'd still have an empty upload queue. Hm.
