I'm Lost In The Guides To Magnetlinks And Ed2K

It took me long enough to figure out how to make a torrent and get into the Bt community in the first place. But I wish to know how to take the next step in using magnet links. The maglinks are based on torrents and I am using utorrent which creates maglinks. I've gotten that far by asking questions.
Also I have installed ed2k client and found the forum here. But the program is foreign to me and I have made errors. I do not know the server concept and I do not know how the content pages (uploads and downloads) work.
By now there should be a place to start with screenshots-- preferably as a download document I can print out. I am no good at reading multipage guides on screen.
What are your suggestions for a noob?

It may be the reason my port test gave the failed error.
Currently the ISP is providing a Zoom ADSLX5 with their programming on it. No user serviceable parts within (like it used to say on the backs of radios.)

I saw port forwarding listed in the subjects and port test is part of setup. I'm still at square one with this. If portforwarding is not necessary and I can get the port test to work with experimentation by changing the port value is that something you can tell me?
Also will my bandwidth be even more strained than it is by trying to run ed2k and Bt with utorrent? I don't think I can run both.

Once again: if you need help, please give out some usefull information about your equipment and settings. If you also use ADSL modem, tell it's brand and model number.
You can use eMule and torrents, but not really unconditionally.

Brand and model number is up there earlier: Zoom ADSLX5 and on the back it says series 1083 FWIW.
I am throttled (?) at 40kb/sec upload. Download I've seen as high as 145kb/sec. There are other plans available but I've always maintained the minimum.

I asked if you have also a modem, or phone jack goes directly into Zoom box.

If you clicked the given link, you'll there's a lot more data about your configuration than you supplied. Usually it's useful to check all the settings, especially for beginners.
If you have troubles with port forwarding, have you tried to use UPnP?

I went to the help pages and looked up UPnP. It says you can restart a wizard at the tools option. Where is the tools option? I looked under Connections but nothing seemed to open up and it looked like an error icon displayed (red dash.)
This may mean something isn't set up yet. Repeatedly I have tried to reinstall and not found the Wizard dialog to display. This means I am hung up at the install routine even using the help function.

I forgot the first part of your question. The phone jack goes to the Zoom box. It also is a four port switch which means that I am also networked to another machine here at my residence.
I navigated : emule > options > connections and found the UPnP test. The test failed and so I do not know how to change the values. UPnP did not appear to change or test and alternative TCP values, it just produced the error. This may mean that port forwarding is needed. I printed out all of the portforwarding steps some ago-- don't know if I can find those sheets.

If UPnP fails and you need manual forwarding, then you need static local IP for eMule's computer (or otherwise make sure the address would not be assigned automatically - reserve IP, or bind address to MAC or computer name). The guides for static IP and port forwarding you could find at portforward.com site.
