A power cut revealed my UPS is not working. New batteries ordered.

Meantime, on re-starting XP, I fired up eMule and... windows stopped it. "eMule has encountered a problem and needs to close..." This appears within five seconds or so and before ANY eM splash or program windows appear.

I tried re-installing Em (latest version re-downloaded from SForge just in case) over the top - install checked in as OK but on attempting to start, same box.

Rebooting XP cleanly has not fixed it either.

I assume something has scrambeld one of the config/status files, but where do I start looking?

Close emule, remove all config files, open emule.
If it will open, close emule and put your older config files (preferences.ini excluded)
If it will work, you have finished...
If not: read first line... You will stay without your older config files...
If this will not work, the problem could be in your O.S.

Thanks xilolee - I'll tinker some more. Er - silly question I hope but "all config files" are in the \config subdirectory of the emule progfiles folder?


The files most recently written before the crash were known.met, cancelled.met, and statistics.ini.

OK - it's "known.met" that is corrupt. Is there any way to repair this or extract useful information? I assume it's the file which colours search-hits green and red so I don't re-download something I've downloaded last year... which would be annoying info to lose.

You can try emule met viewer, from content data base of http://www.emule-project.net (i've never used it, so i don't know if it can help you)
