With PIPA and SOPA (and spanish Sinde's law) they are trying to close and criminalize all direct download websites.

A way to avoid this and going on sharing links can be doing it like if they were files. In that situation, emule will have a new tab to look for and to share links. Obviously, emule should be able to detect if files are still available in the link, or if it's a wrong link (like jdwonloader, it has the same feature).

With this features, emule will recover lots of users that have left it to only use direct download websites, and people who wants to share links will be able to going on doing it.

The files on such one click hosters are usually encrypted rar archives with cryptic filenames, sharing their URLs without any other information is quite useless.

You'd have to at first enhance the capabilities of for example DLC containers to store all information, which is now on the websides, together with the actual (crypted) URLs and share those. That way, instead of sharing dozens or for HD stuff even hundreds of URLs (all of which you would have to find at first), you share one file with everything inside, which means a lot less load. And since DLC containers are files, that can be done with the current capabilities of eMule.

If there should be created a special P2P network for sharing URLs (or whatever seems appropriate, separate URLs aren't), that's IMO job for the JD & Co. devs.

Anyway, I wouldn't panic to much about PIPA, SOPA & Co., also not about Megaupload. Filesharing will always find it's way, each time they come with new laws or try to scare away people from that, all that happens is a short disturbance, than new, better ways are found which make it atractive to even more people.

The idea is to be able to look for, for example, "spiderman 3" and get links of the movie. Sharing a file with all the links is a problem because of adding new films will involve in large amount of data transfer (the crc changes, so you have to change the whole file), and if two people change the file at the same time, there will be problems. At least, the will be hundreds of link files, so the sync would be constant and the bandwidth will be wasted.

Do you have any imagination, how many that would be even if you specify for example untouched DVD9 or whatever release type you want to have? Besides, the actual files would be named something like homo_arachnidus_3.partXXX.rar or even something completely random, how do you like to search for that? Searching for a .dlc, which is not stored on those hosters and can be named more userfriendly, is however a simple task.

Why would you like to add any other movies to the same dlc file? Does not make any sense, only adding mirrors makes sense, but that would be done by the original releaser anyway. If someone else creates compatible mirrors, he can still name his DLC file close enough, so that both will be found by the same search.

Are you trying to suggest, that every eMule client should constantly synchronise MILLIONS of URLs with the rest of the network (and eventually check also all of them) and keep the index lockally, i.e. everyone has an own copy?
Besides the fact, that you will for sure not save any bandwidth that way and you will use even a lot more compared to searching for something the user actually wants (for many of us it would be probably something close to all the available bandwith, I think), you would maybe even need a server class hardware to maintain such database, or at least a really good PC.

Or that's not what you meant...
