Hi,
Im working in a R+D team and we are doing some work in DHT performance.
I was thinking in add a custom tag to the files we are sharing for an experiment but i dont know if that is allowed or we will get kicked of the network because of that.
Does someone know if there is any standard procedure to add a new TAG to the protocol or if the clients take any countermeasure against those that got any extra tag defined?
The tag will just give some extra info about the file we are publishing that can be useful to transfer it quickly.
Thanks every much to anyone who can enlight us a little in this topic.

AFAIK it should be enough to just name a certain file with the keyword you want to use. So make the name like "MyKeyWord1 MyKeyWord2.txt". I am not exactly which characters delimit the keywords but I think space is a pretty good bet. Anyway, it's in the code, I am certain of that.

No, there will not be a new version of my mods. No, I do not want your PM. No, I am certain, use the board and quit sending PMs. No, I am not kidding, there will not be a new version of my mods just because of YOU asking for it!

Probably im going that way if the tags definition is not modifyable, but i will preffer to define a tag so it will be easier to read/write.

In general clients should never add new tags to Kad themself, however if you don't publish the client (so that there is only one arround) it doesn't matters too much i suppose. Some tags are filtered, but in order to provide backward compability most clients store new tags. If you file is common however, another publisher might overwrite your tags when indexing the file and they will vanish.

Thanks for the advice about vanishing i didnt think about that before.
I ll just work my prototype using some extra keyword as Stulle propossed and if the work we doing here actually works, i will ask in the forum again to see if it should be tag or not and push my code to amule/emule.
